"Franchise History"?[edit]

The SAL Tides are not the same franchise as the International League Tides. Same team name. That's it. The franchise came from Jacksonville, Florida. I think this should be fixed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leshii (talkcontribs) 23:30, 14 January 2010 (UTC) This (post, not the article) is correct. This misconception is rampant throughout WikipediA's articles on minor-league teams. Between changing nicknames and locale names and affiliations - not to mention moving from city to city - it can get confusing. Fact is, the constant - the key - is the franchise, which is issued (and sometimes rescinded) by its league. A city with a AA team does not move up to AAA; it acquires a AAA franchise. I've seeen scores of examples of writing by people who either do not understand or do not accept this. Makes me wonder what else on Wikipedia I can't trust. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.30.59.51 (talk) 02:46, 25 February 2012 (UTC) Interesting.[reply]
Ok I can agree SAL (South Atlantic Leagues) Tides (Double A) is not the same as the IL (triple-A) Tides. Who/What is the typical ownership of the minor leagues teams (and fact may vary at different levels). SAL Tides moved by their owners, locality made "noise" and got the "New"? triple affiliate for the expansion team NY Mets. But What about the transition from Affiliation with Mets to Affiliation with Orioles. Is this now a different franchise? The Mets 3-A affiliate is now in the PCL (Pacific Coast League) appropriate for their new location. See the Richmond Braves/ now Gwinnitt Braves for a similar example). At 3-A and 2-A level I suspect the team/affiliate owner is the parent/major league franchise. At some lower levels, the team are independent and have a individual/ group own them Please pardon me here - [perhaps some of my writing is too concise and others loose track of point. Also perhaps my response could be better/ more appropriate on users talk page than on this talk page. Wfoj3 (talk) 22:52, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
