Evangelion reference[edit]

Is it possible that this is a reference to the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion? The legend originated on an internet forum in the 1990s, which is when Evangelion aired. The backstory of Evangelion is that a cataclysmic event occurred in Antarctica in 2000, and since then mysterious creatures known as "Angels" have been attacking the Earth. One theme of the anime is the discussion of what constitutes "humanity" and the artist's impression of the Ningen bears resemblance to some of the designs in the show. 172.103.166.66 (talk) 11:29, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This article (https://www.academia.edu/42635110/NINGEN_The_generation_of_media-lore_concerning_a_giant_sub-Antarctic_aquatic_humanoid_and_its_relation_to_Japanese_whaling_activity) which was cited in the original version of this page, but not in the current version makes multiple references to the influence of Evangelion on the ningen legend. 172.103.166.66 (talk) 11:36, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Partly done I have added the article link to "Further Reading" section (has creative commons lic.). Pending to add the Evangelion connection. Alexcalamaro (talk) 15:25, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion[edit]

Looking over this article, I can see there is a lot of work that is needed to be done here. more reliable sources need to be found and more information added. The background, history of the purported sightings as well as more sources citing the description of these purported beings need to be added. If it can be found in an academic or literary source, possible theories added as well. Paleface Jack (talk) 15:53, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

...uhh...[edit]

This is a pretty non-noteworthy thing, really. Also, it's weird to call it "ningen" here when everything pointing to Japanese calls it the "Antarctic human" (ningen means human) Narky Sawtooth (talk) 00:09, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"History" section presents fiction as if true[edit]
