Corps of Inquestoires[edit]

"Prior to 1984 a Corps of Inquestoires existed" What's that? (I only found the WP page with Google) Apokrif 16:49, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Terrorist police[edit]

Can any one tell me which branch of the French police deal with terrorists?

For example, if there was a dangerous situation in which a raid was going to be made on a house with armed terrorists, which police would do it?

Thanks,

AJ

Depends. Both the Gendarmerie's GIGN unit or the Police RAID unit could do it.MickBarnes 15:32, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As could the GIPNs, of which one exists in each region.--68.80.207.22 18:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Or the BRI. Rama 22:09, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
BRI is the Paris GIPN (to make a long story short). --Pif paf mad (talk) 08:25, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

This article, and the article on the Gendarmerie Nationale, has a map at the top showing the area in which the police force operates. Both articles have the same map - in fact, it's the very same picture. It confuses me a little bit. The text of the article about the Gendarmerie states that they patrol rural areas and small towns "outside of the jurisdiction of the French National Police", although the map for both forces highlights the entire country. Are they both pan-national forces, and if so, what does the map add to the article? -Ashley Pomeroy 00:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Depends on the context. Day-to-day law enforcement in towns above a certain size is done by the police, elsewhere by the gendarmerie. There are exceptions to this: criminal enquiries tend to be handled by the police (but not always, depending on judicial decisions), enquiries on the military are handled by the gendarmerie, etc. David.Monniaux 21:02, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helicopters[edit]

The article talks about helicopters in the french national police (the number of 45 is advanced). I don't know where this chart has been found but I'd like to inform you that there aren't any helicopters in the french national police. Only one is in service but for tests and it's very recent. It has been lended by the french "sécurité civile" and studies are made to draw up the real needs. There certainly aren't 45 helicopters in this police ! What is that information ? --Popom2 17:59, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to say it, I see that there are no answers since 2007... Today, I think there are no Helicopters operated by the French Police, only by the Gendarmerie Nationale. I think we should delete that section of the article. --Kyah117 (talk) 09:03, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

The article doesn't inform about the history of the police, eg. during the WWII, fr:Collaboration policière sous le régime de Vichy. Is French a problem? Xx236 (talk) 14:23, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Weapons equipment[edit]

Which submachine guns or heavier weaponry is used by the French National Police? The article only gives information about historical equipment or more modern pistols only. Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.104.109.227 (talk) 05:24, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The National Police is currently equipped with : Pistolets Mitrailleurs Beretta for most patrols (submachine gun Beretta, it's quite old now) that will be replaced by HK UMP 9mm soon. Specialized units are equipped with HK G36 assault rifles and Remington 870 shotguns.86.198.54.242 (talk) 23:22, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing about history[edit]

A French page informs about history of the National Police. I wrote about it in 2010, see above. Xx236 (talk) 11:26, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
