Dear Reviewer, I refer to your recent nomination of deletion posted on my newly written page "Synthetic peptide NE-tag". I would like to explain and discuss with you about my situation of how to put my information posted. I understand that the reason of nomination of deletion is the possibility of violation of copyright from an external website : http://www.versitech.hku.hk/reagents/ne/. In fact, I am the owner of the information and materials present on this external website. To avoid copyright problem, I chose not to put a direct link of this external website onto the wiki page.

Followed your suggestion after my first attempt, I tried to re-wrote the text so that it is not simply copy-and-paste from my external website. However, most of the wordings that being shown from your machine screening for similarities are the specific terms in science, which I think is nothing about plagiarism or violation of copyrights.

I saw some other existing similar pages on post, e.g. HA-tag, FLAG-tag, using very similar wordings as we did since this is very common language in science. Can you help and advice of how to solve this issue? Many thanks! Philip Ho (talk) 04:25, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To be used in Wikipedia, content must be under certain licenses. (with exceptions, such as fair use) If you are the copyright holder and would like to license your content for use on Wikipedia, you should look at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The simplest way to do so is to add a notice to the website, stating that the material is under a free license or in the public domain.
As for the copyvio detector, it's not 100% accurate, so focus on writing in your own words. Some sentences or parts of sentences were copied verbatim, though. In this particular case, it's being thrown off by the references at the bottom of the article.
If you have any questions, or need help, feel free to ask me or place {{help}} onto your talk page. Sunmist (talk) 04:38, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sunmist, Many thanks for your advice! To my understanding, I need to re-write some of the text in my template NE-tag page so that the text is not identical or a direct copy from my external website (http://www.versitech.hku.hk/reagents/ne/). Is this correct?

Secondly, I saw an option of adding "external link" when I tried to build my page via Article Wizard. Can I put the link in to divert to my external webpage for more detail information of the topic? Cheers, Philip Ho (talk) 09:31, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, the text can't be identical, as that's plagiarism and/or a copyright violation. As for external links, you should be careful about adding links to sites you are associated with, as this can sometimes be considered spam. www.versitech.hku.hk appears to be trying to sell a product, so I would recommend not including it. (although I don't know a lot about your field, so use your own judgment) You may want to look at Wikipedia's external link guideline. ––Sunmist (talk) 08:39, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sunmist, If there is no violation of my revised text, may I know how I can transfer this page to the mainspace under title "NE-tag"? Philip Ho (talk) 04:06, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article looks like it can be put into mainspace; you can do this by pressing "More" and "Move" in the bar at the top of the article. Change the first part of the new title (the namespace) from "User" to "(article)", and remove your name from the article's title. Then, specify a reason (moving draft to mainspace) and click "Move page". There is some more info at Wikipedia:Moving a page. ––Sunmist (talk)
