Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.

If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)

I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.

Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs)

Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

Understood, thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:05, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Immediate Failures[edit]

  • It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria -
  • It contains copyright infringements -
  • It has, or needs, cleanup banners that are unquestionably still valid. These include{{cleanup}}, {{POV}}, {{unreferenced}} or large numbers of {{citation needed}}, {{clarify}}, or similar tags. (See also {{QF-tags}}). -
  • It is not stable due to edit warring on the page. -

Lede[edit]

  • My Father's Place is a dive bar and restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Buckman neighborhood, in the United States. - bit sloppy for the opening sentence. What about "My Father's Place is a restaurant and dive bar located in the Buckman neighborhood in Portland, Oregon." United States is clear. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
     Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:09, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Owned by the Moles family and housed in the New Logus Block (1872), the diner opened in 1978 and attracts a diverse clientele. - worth stating what's important first, the location (as the Moles family isn't notable). No need to link diner. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
     Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:10, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • What does the (1872) mean? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Explained. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:11, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • 365 days per year - so everyday? Or is there a deal on leap years? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Lee Vilenski, I've changed to "My Father's Place operates every day, even on holidays". I do think we'll want to note how the restaurant is known for operating on holidays in some way. Sources focus on the restaurant being open for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:12, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I don't think 365 covers that! Good to say it is open everyday, including traditional holidays. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:19, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Does the update intro text work for you? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:23, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The game room and lounge have billiard tables, lottery machines, pinball, and a jukebox.- before this, maybe mention what the diner offers, this is the first time we've denoted that it has a game room. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • received a generally positive reception. - [according to whom?]Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I meant for this to be the briefest of summaries of the Reception section, which suggests a generally positive reception. I've expanded the lead a bit, but I was hoping to avoid repeating any specific opinions about the diner in the introduction. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:23, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • No info on why/how it was originally opened? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:59, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a bit more information about ownership. As for why the restaurant opened... I couldn't guess as sources don't specify. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:17, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. The opening itself is quite important. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:19, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

General[edit]

  • New Logus Block (1892) - same question as lede. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:12, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
     Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:25, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is also a room with billiard tables, lottery machines, and pinball. - only one of the sources mention cue sports, which talks about pool, so it should probably say pool tables as they aren't the same thing. (billiard tables don't have pockets! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:12, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • probably doesn't need a subsection for the Clientele. I've made a change. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:12, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Sure! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:28, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • My Father's Place opened in 1978.[1] Merrie Ann Dillon began working as a waitress at the bar, before becoming a co-owner then sole proprietor. - could probably merge these. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Lee Vilenski, I'm struggling here. Do you have a specific suggestion? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:31, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, "The diner was opened in 1978 by Merrie Ann Dillon, who began working as ...." Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:42, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Lee Vilenski, Merrie Ann Dillon did not open the restaurant. Or, at least that's not what sourcing suggests. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:49, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The business had approximately 25 staffers, as of 2018 - staffers is a really slang term. Say it has 25 employees. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
     Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:28, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Elliott Smith and Willy Vlautin frequented the bar, - probably worth denoting that these are both muscicians. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
     Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:29, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • In 2016, Eater Portland included My Father's Place in an article called "Ghost Stories from Portland's 5 Most Haunted Restaurants" - this probbaly needs a lede sentence saying that the place is reportedly haunted or similar. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've snuck in a "reportedly haunted" in the lead. I don't want to put too much emphasis on this, as really just one source describes the supposed haunt. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:36, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • My Father's Place hosted shows as part of the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in 2016.[19]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, bar seating was restricted and staff assistance was required for the jukebox and pinball machines, as of September.[20] -do we need two new paragraphs about this? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:33, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Review meta comments[edit]

Ok, all looks good. I'd like a slightly bigger lede section, and less quotes, but otherwise seems well sourced and written, so I'll pass now. Well done.Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:05, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
