The Deep River Boys also recorded it.^[1] Melinda Doolittle recorded the song on her 2013 album Lift Every Voice: The Historic Songs Of James Weldon Johnson.

With modified lyrics, for example substituting bamboo butler for baboon butler, the song is sung at some summer camps with accompanying arm movements and clapping.^[2]^[3]
