Broadcast date[edit]

I knwo the date in the infobox is the date of the live Doctor Who Prom (which is braodcast live on Radio 3), but it appears that it won't be on TV that day - any reliable source on when it'll be on BBC ONE? - How will we handle the braodcast date in the infobox then? Perhaps note the live Radio 3 broadcast and the delayed BBC ONE broadcast? Etron81 (talk) 14:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Something like the "Original Channel" section on the Torchwood page infobox. i.e.
BBC Radio 3: 27 July 2008 (audio only)
BBC One: 30 July 2008
Or something like that anyway! I'm sure there is some sort of format we can find to cover it. And just to clarify, the 30 July is just a random date I plucked out of the air, nothing concrete! Clockwork Apricot (talk) 23:39, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have added details of it's broadcast (complete with source), I hope that is ok. It seems that it will be shown th the Doctor Who website during the interval which begins at 11.40am GMT. magnius (talk) 16:38, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody deleted my reference without explaining why, I have readded it as I believe it to be a perfectly useful reference to when and where the cutaway will be broadcast. The link is here http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/misc/proms/ and it is very specific and official. magnius (talk) 16:56, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
BBC One: TBA - are you sure it's even going to be on BBC One? BBC Four shows the Proms and BBC Two braodcasts highlights. So if it's on TV at all, it would surely be one of those, not BBC One. Digifiend (talk) 11:02, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's mentioned that it was flmed for BBC One here: [1] Etron81 (talk) 13:47, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Shame it doesn't say when it's on then. I'd better keep an eye on the TV guide. Digifiend (talk) 10:13, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My guess (and it's only a guess, and hence completely unencylopedic) is that they'll air it in the run-up to this year's Christmas Special. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 16:18, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is some suggestion that it could be shown over the August bank holiday weekend, but that is unverified blog talk magnius (talk) 16:24, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They might boradcast it as a red-button extra on BBC One like they did on the run-up to The Runaway Bride--I.W Iway amway Imagineway Izardway. 17:34, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jenny[edit]

Jenny has not been confirmed it's just a romour that bit needs dealdting

JordanAshley (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 07:08, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You mean the 2009 specials? They haven't been filmed yet, so there's nowhere to talk about that right now. Sorry. Digifiend (talk) 10:16, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Graske[edit]

It is pretty clear now that the Graske WILL be in the Proms episode, I have added a link that has a pictured scene from the cutaway. So I think that it should remain this time. Please feel free to over rule me if you still feel that a screen cap from the episode is not proof enough. magnius (talk) 14:12, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While that may be proof, I don't think we should cite blogs. If it's in DWM 398 as the blog claims, we can cite that. I have dropped a line with another editor who has DWM 398 and asked him to change it if possible. So#Why 14:15, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, but I do think that it is proof enough that the Graske are definitely set to appear, you don't get better proof than a screen cap :) Do we know for a fact that Jimmy Vee is the graske though? magnius (talk) 14:24, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Featured[edit]

This article is looking really good! Well written and well sourced. Maybe it would be worth attemping to get it featured? All Grown Up Whovian 16:22, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like that, but I think it may be best to wait until after the BBC One transmission as then we can fix the details for that. Also, does it have to reach Good Article status before it can be featured? Wolf of Fenric (talk) 16:43, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't have to, but passing GA would be a better indication of whether FA is a possibility. But see my comment below. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 19:39, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expand subject matter to Doctor Who Proms?[edit]

The filmed content is arguably what's of most interest to Doctor Who fans, but there's been substantial press coverage of the Doctor Who Proms in general (see The Independent, The Times, Guardian, Daily Mail, Evening Standard, The Sun). Should the article's subject matter be expanded to include the concert as a whole, which has more notability than the 7-minute scene? —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 19:39, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We should probably discuss the Doctor Who Proms under its own article, much like Doctor Who: A Celebration. This article can then be referenced from the Proms article as the mini-episode that was shown during the event. Conversely (and depending on the level of detail in the content), this article can be merged with the Proms article. DonQuixote (talk) 20:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think there is sufficient material for two separate articles, given that the Doctor Who Proms article can detail the Doctor Who and classical music played, the Doctor Who actors' guest appearances and the monsters that appeared during the concert both on stage and amongst the audience. Additionally, I think most reviewers will review the whole concert and not just "Music of the Spheres" so reviews should be able to provide more content for both articles. Yes, there will be some overlap, but details specific to "Music of the Spheres" should remain on this article and the concert article can link to this one. Wolf of Fenric (talk) 20:23, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have begun writing Doctor Who Prom and once complete I think both that article and this article will be strong enough not to be merged. I will seek to add the material cited by Josiah Rowe, but not just at the moment as I'm logging out. Wolf of Fenric (talk) 03:17, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That plan sounds good to me. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 13:55, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Place in Continuity of the Show[edit]

I'm unsure on the offical stance but could this episode be set sometime around the 'Last of the Timelords' / 'Time Crash' / 'Voyage of the Damned' period as it features the Doctor in the blue suit that is now in a parallel universe (in the ownership of the Half Human Doctor), the shields are down (as back then) and the Doctor is quite happy in his alone state (unlikely to be after Journey's End considering his sadness, which is maintained (as River Song's comments showed) Pretty much I'm just saying that it seems to fit in there continuity wise - show does that need mentioning? 86.131.171.170 (talk) 16:42, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, it is possible that The Doctor owns more than one blue suit, and it could be set a while after Journey's End and he has gotten used to being alone magnius (talk) 16:49, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also say with it being broadcast after The Next Doctor it could be argued to come chronologically after The Next Doctor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.8.102.169 (talk) 22:56, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberman Introducing Interval?[edit]

I was at the Prom and don't remember a Cyberman introducing the interval as this article suggests under the transmission section. I remember the first half just ending and the lights coming up after Music of the Spheres was shown. Anyone else who was there remember a cyberman introducing the interval? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.231.46 (talk) 14:50, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Production[edit]

I removed a few links because I felt that they were a little unnecessary and made almost the entire section into a massive link. Do we really need links to Ancient Rome, dates, 2 links to 'recorder' etc? It looks very messy. If you are going to be some pedantic about it then you had better add links to the currently unlinked Doctors, actors, episodes.. and make the whole damn section blue! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Magnius (talkcontribs) 00:13, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

This review is transcluded from Talk:Music of the Spheres (Doctor Who)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Everything's looking pretty good as of now, but here are a few little suggestions for further improvement:

  • Wouldn't a colon be better than a semicolon after "Davies cites as examples of the Doctor's previous associations with music", as it's introducing a list?
    Done. Sceptre (talk) 12:56, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • A contradiction: Davies 'realised the Tenth Doctor had yet to show "any aptitude for music"' yet 'The Tenth Doctor has previously showed musical aptitude in several episodes...'
    Done. Sceptre (talk) 12:56, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • introduced the episode which was shown on a large screen above the stage - should there be a comma before "which" considering, just preceding this, there's a comma before "who"? It'd also be easier to read.
    Done. Sceptre (talk) 12:56, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • There shouldn't be a space before ref 3 in the Length parameter of the infobox (very pendantic, I know).
    Done. Sceptre (talk) 12:56, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • The rule of thumb for fair-use images is that they shouldn't exceed 0.1 megapixels. Image:Graskedoctor.png is currently a little over, but it's not a big deal - I won't fail the GAN if it's not scaled down a little. The Purpose and Portion parameters of the fair use template should be fixed, though.
Removed it; It looks like it's been capped from YouTube. Sceptre (talk) 12:56, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's about it. The article will be on hold for a week, so good luck until then with making changes :) —97198 (talk) 10:24, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Who needs a week? Nice work :) I'm happy to promote the article. —97198 (talk) 13:00, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
