The contents of this article are so mis-leading, and many points are just plainly wrong, that rather than correct this, it would be better to delete it altogether. It is not a substantial article, so I do not see any benefit in necessarily creating a replacement at the present time. Most of the material (in reliable articles) can be found elsewhere in Wikipedia. e.g. Information on instruments can be found in links from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_period_instruments. In addition, it is clear that many of the mis-conceptions in this article are the result of referring to unsuitable source material, which are found in the links from this article. No major works on Elizabethan music or instruments have been referred to in the links. The Haynes-Hart website is woefully in error. Mjlawlor 14:30, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I haven't seen an article on Wikipedia as terrible as this one in years. The instruments section is laughably inaccurate: a shawm is a type of flute? A virginal is a small piano? A portative organ an accordion? Every section contains factual inaccuracies, in addition to terribly amateurish writing. It'd be best to completely ditch the current contents and start anew. 20080515 I tried to fix a link which pointed to a defunkt domain-name-parker, until I realised that [1] is valid, but not www.elizabethan-era.org., You are right - the article needs some serious improvement, but I have neither the time, knowledge or skills to to that. 20101120 Much of the content on this page is not referenced, and has obviously been written by people with only sporadic knowledge. Can the original authors reference and cite their sources? I don't know enough to sort this page out but I know enough to see how laughable it is as it stands...I think someone just read a few bullet points in an article somewhere and then wrote this. The "English Madrigal School" was an actual school apparently...this needs sorting urgently! Podshole (talk) 21:40, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

According to my (admittedly limited) research, the English Madrigal School wasn't an actual university per se, but rather a movement that involved the Madrigals becoming more popular. I've tried to remedy the error. If anyone has any further sources, however, I'd be glad to see them. I decided to delete the line about music schools becoming popular, as that seemed to simply be a lead in to the Madrigal School and I honestly couldn't find a place for it. I printed this out and actually read through the entire article on break at work. This is atrocious. I've sent a request (in the form of a facebook status) to my friends to see if anyone else will jump on and fix here and there. Hopefully someone will be bored enough to edit with me. I pulled some books from my collection on general music history and Elizabethan times (Mostly focused on Shakespeare, but from the sounds of theatre music at the time, there will probably be some mention to it. This will be a long project, so anyone who wants to join: jump right in.
