Need for the article[edit]

There is some overlap between this article and Banana, Plantain and List of banana cultivars, given that most plantains and many bananas are cultivars of Musa × paradisiaca. However, I think it's worth having a short article under the botanical name, as opposed to the fruit names, but it probably shouldn't be expanded much more as this would just repeat material better placed elsewhere. Image[edit]

The image I've put here (File:Israel banana trees 3.JPG) shows what I think is needed: the whole plant with fruit and a terminal bud still developing. However, it might be a cultivar of Musa acuminata (i.e. an AA, AAA or AAAA genome group cultivar) rather than a cultivar of M. × paradisiaca. It would be nice to have a similar image certain to be of the hybrid. Peter coxhead (talk) 06:43, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
