Education[edit]

I deleted the Calloway County school section because this is a page about Murray, not Calloway County. There is a page exclusively for Calloway County and their school system should be posted on that page.

What part of Calloway County schools are located within the city of Murray? NONE! Stop posting it on the MURRAY PAGE!!! And before you try to tell me that Calloway County High is in the city, check your annexation maps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.114.125.37 (talk) 20:10, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to this web page all of the Calloway County district schools are located in the city of Murray. Various news stories ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5]) about Calloway County schools list their location as Murray. I suppose you are arguing that they are located a short distance outside Murray (to the North, West, and East), but the press and US postal service apparently don't see it that way. Do you have a reliable source saying that they aren't in Murray? Having read some of those news reports it seems to me that the 'annexation' issue you refer to has to do with which school district various locales are in. There was apparently been a great deal of fighting between the two districts over whether children in various areas go to one set of schools or the other... but that doesn't change the fact that both sets of schools are located in the city of Murray. Just which of the two school districts in Murray that people go to. --CBD 23:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the official City of Murray Zoning Map, the high school, middle school, Board of Education and bus garage are NOT located in the city of Murray. The map doesn't lie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.114.125.37 (talk) 00:09, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To quote the map itself, "This map or mapping system has been prepared for the City of Murray ONLY. The City of Murray, its agents or assigns, make no representations as to its accuracy. It should not be relied upon by any other person, organization, or entity."
Further, you are conflating issues of ownership and zoning control with location. The United Nations building is not owned or under the zoning control of the city, but there is no question that it is IN New York. The situation here seems the same. The City of Murray has no authority to re-zone the Calloway County school properties... but that doesn't change the fact that they are in the city of Murray. --CBD 08:26, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So what should we use? Your word? You are speculating. Find me evidence that the school in IN the city of Murray. Until then, I will take it out everyday if I have to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.114.125.37 (talk) 18:05, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That isn't the way it works. You can't force a page to show what you want by 'out reverting' everyone else. Eventually that just leads to page protection and/or user block to prevent further editing. Nor does this have anything to do with 'my word'... or that of the various other users you alone have reverted over this issue. It has to do with Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources. The San Diego Union Tribune, Paducah Sun, Lexington Herald Leader, and various other newspapers (many linked above) which consistently say that the Calloway County schools are located in Murray meet the reliable source standards of Wikipedia. If the Calloway County schools were NOT in Murray those newspapers would get complaints about constantly saying that they are and correct the information. They haven't done that... because the Calloway County schools ARE in Murray. As is also shown by the fact that their postal addresses are all in Murray.
Even if we imagine that all the newspapers, the post office, the Calloway schools themselves, and all the users who have added the Calloway schools to this page are somehow 'wrong'... this article should still say that the Calloway schools are in Murray because that is what every reliable source claims, and Wikipedia reports what has been established by other sources. Not 'Truth' as individual users perceive it. --CBD 19:10, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For example, let's take Tom Lane Rd that runs along the Grave County/Marshall County line, with some of the road in each county. It is a fact that some of those houses have a Benton address. Would you consider those houses being located IN Benton? I provided the map that shows what is considered in the city of Murray and what isn't. What else can be used? I'm still waiting for your reliable source since mine is considered to not be accurate enough. --65.114.125.37 (talk) 20:29, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like you are acknowledging that the Calloway County schools have Murray addresses, but saying that doesn't mean they are in the city. This seems like an argument of 'legal technicality' versus 'common perception'. That is, since there are no closer cities or towns it is commonly held that these schools (and various other locations) are part of Murray, but they are on lands not owned by the city of Murray and therefor in some legal sense not part of Murray, even when completely surrounded by lands which ARE part of Murray. Is that your argument? If so, it goes back to the equivalent of claiming that the UN building isn't in New York City.
How about this. Regardless of whether the school buildings themselves are located in Murray, do you acknowledge that many people who live in the city of Murray attend these schools? A school zone map on the same website as the zoning map you linked above indicates that people living in the northern third and various other portions of the city attend Calloway County rather than Murray Independent schools. Would it therefor be acceptable to you for the article to say that Murray residents go to these schools? Or is that fact verbotten too? --CBD 21:37, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All the evidence presented here so far seems to prove that the Calloway County schools are in fact NOT in Murray. The mailing address would be that of the nearest decent sized town, which in this case is Murray, but the schools themselves are not in the city limits so they do not belong in this article. They belong in the Calloway County, Kentucky article instead. BlueGold73 (talk) 22:36, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Let's put it another way. Would you consider the Calloway County elementary schools to be located within the city of Murray? Of course you wouldn't. All three have a Murray address, but are considered by no one as to being located within the city of Murray. You can't pick and choose and use half-truths. 65.114.125.37 (talk) 04:42, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, stop posting Calloway County schools as being located within the city of Murray. THEY ARE NOT! I will continue to delete false posts every single day when I come to the page. I will outlast you on this. 68.217.156.227 (talk) 19:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You apparently aren't even bothering to READ the material you are reverting now. It does NOT say that the Calloway County schools are located in Murray... though an overwhelming number of reliable sources showing that to be the case have been cited. What it says is that Murray children attend Calloway County schools. With references proving this to be true. At this point you are edit warring without even knowing what the text you are removing SAYS. Which is clearly disruptive and needs to stop. --CBD 22:38, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are some kids from Murray who attend Eastwood Christian, so what's the point? That school, as well as Calloway County schools, are located outside the city of Murray and do not belong in the article. How hard is it to put Calloway County schools on their own page, which is the Calloway County Kentucky page? I have worked hard on this page and it has been chopped up enough. 68.217.156.227 (talk) 00:24, 9 October 2008 (UTC) 68.217.156.227 (talk) 00:25, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been silently watching this disagreement with some interest and now feel it appropriate to comment. To the anonymous editor, I agree with CBDunkerson in warning you about edit warring. Comments like "I will delete this every day" and "I will outlast you" are outright acknowledgments of intentional edit warring and make it difficult to assume good faith. (They can also get you blocked from editing, but none of us want that.) In addition, comments like "I have worked hard on this page and it has been chopped up enough" hint at an issue with WP:OWN. Brushing up on these policies will make you a better Wikipedian. That said, your latest edit leaves in the fact that some Murray students attend schools in the Calloway County district while omitting extraneous data regarding the district itself. This seems like a reasonable compromise. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 00:51, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It'll work. I dug around to put together enough info for a Calloway County Schools page and linked the sentence about them in this article to that. If someone were looking at this page to find out what school district their kids would be in they can now find that info and a link to pages about some of those schools. Ditto residents who wonder why their neighbors don't attend the same school. Et cetera. It's a better article about the city of Murray for having more inclusive information. --CBD 08:40, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is a good compromise. I put the Calloway school section under the Murray school section because I feel it flows better with the article. Now if I could only find out who changed the population numbers around. 68.217.152.65 (talk) 22:21, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Population[edit]

Anyone have any idea where this 65,421 came from on the micro-SA population? As far as I know the only county in Murray's micro is Calloway County. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.51.247.130 (talk) 03:34, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it was changed to exceed Calloway County due to Murray being a mini hub for parts of Henry County, TN and Marshall County, KY. That is all I can think of that would cause this. 68.155.210.20 (talk) 14:04, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've never seen any documentation of that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.249.168.9 (talk) 21:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where on earth is the Calloway County schools system. I live here and Calloway is in Murray too. Please post Calloway back on. Just because they are a snooty private school system doesn't give them a right to be the only education on this page. Calloway county High School just beat Murray in every subject except Reading which we are very high in too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.16.224.139 (talk) 22:11, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Airport[edit]

Minor point, an airport's ID is known as a Location Identifier, not a Call Sign. Call Sign relates to individual aircraft, and is the name/number they are referred to when communicating with Air Traffic Control. Eelb53 (talk) 23:06, 14 July 2012 (UTC)eelb53[reply]

Those sections need additional citations for verification, has anyone had problems updating those sections in need or is Wikipedia now becoming a nonprofit hate group based on President Trump’s unverified claims? Truckersfable (talk) 01:44, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
