If this article would be referenced as it must be, a lot of the misinformation would be avoided. I tried to edit, but I don't know where to start.
- A municipality is a "an urban administrative division having corporate status and usually powers of self-government or jurisdiction." In German, the translation would be a "Kommune."
- On an EU level, the synonym would be Local administrative unit (LAU)
- "The lowest level of official territorial division in Germany" would indeed be a Gemeinde, which, AFAIK, has no attendant expression in American English. In America, Villages, Towns, Cities etc. do not denote a rank, as the do in Germany.
- To make matters even more complicated, (and tangentially mentioned in the lower part of the article,) in law, German Kommunen or municipalities sometimes are called "politische Gemeinden" with no reference to ranking.
This article should be completely rewritten, if not, deleted. BsBsBs (talk) 11:44, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
I agrre with Grober Unfug[edit]
German Federated States are no "Subdivisions" because they're not administrative units of the Federal Republic, but the other way round the German States form the Federal Republic. So the Federal Republic is a higher unit of independent states 84.132.193.33 (talk) 13:13, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
