Mumford = Johnston?[edit]

We need some more data about this edit [1]? Any reason or reference? Vufors (talk) 11:21, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of reputable interviews give Marcus's last name as Johnstone, not Mumford. I'm not sure, and because he was born in the USA, not UK I don't know how to easily check birth records to verify which it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.208.217.45 (talk) 04:19, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He was born in California. According to birth records, he was born Jan 31 1987 as Marcus Mumford but his middle name was given as 'Oliverjohnst' - I assume that was probably either Oliver Johnstone or (less likely) Oliverjohnstone, which may be where the Johnstone comes from. In any case, it seems Marcus Mumford is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.208.217.45 (talk) 07:09, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Goldtone EBM-5[edit]

I don't know whether this is notable enough to be included in the article, but I did some research and found out that Country Winston plays a Goldtone EBM-5 electric banjo. You can see a picture of him playing it here. It's a pretty unusual instrument, so I thought it might be noteworthy. Blakwyte (talk) 18:41, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone know where they got the name from? Fig (talk) 18:37, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On TV[edit]

Their music was played on FOX TV Network LoneStar episode which premiered 9/20/2010.--EngineerBuilder (talk) 21:50, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also songs appeared on Greys Anatomy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.118.207.2 (talk) 17:14, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh No More appeared on Being Human BBC, Series 2, episode 2, Broadcast: 17 Jan 2010 (UK)206.130.174.13 (talk) 13:54, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is pretty minor, but an instrumental part of their song "Roll Away Your Stone" appeared in a trailer for the film Rango (mainly at the end, especially the banjo solo). The trailer is here (Mumford & Sons comes in at 1:18): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH8xW8mF-AI&feature=related to the end. CrocodilesAreForWimps (talk) 22:41, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Glastonbury shows.[edit]

I feel the comment about the band being relative unknowns, at the Glastonbury festival 2010, isn't accurate at all, as they had released their album several months before with it reaching number two in the UK and US as this article states. This comment seems to be subjective and also a way of falsley making their next appearnance at Glastonbury, this year, of a much grander scale. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.189.150.253 (talk) 22:00, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pop culture is increasingly obsessed with the past[edit]

Talk pages are for discussing the article itself not the articles topic. Come on guys, I would never do that.TBWarrior720 (talk) 22:22, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

new album?[edit]

This article references two different times that the second album is scheduled to drop. Is it late 2011 or Feb. 2012? 98.117.62.100 (talk) 22:41, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

explain: ... were exposed to their future A&R at Island, Louis Bloom, who ...[edit]

I'm not in the loop, so I have to have someone explain two things: What is an "A & R" ? What is "Island" Sorry for being your average ludite reader, but the quality of Wikipedia articles is based on the fact that the average reader is not assumed to know what things are, so it is seemingly better to say, " ... were exposed to (or, "were introduced to") Louis Bloom, their future arranger and recordist at Island Studio and Record Corporation ..." or whatever you really mean. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ricgal (talkcontribs) 04:28, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"I Will Wait" song history[edit]

I just added a section on Talk:I Will Wait about the song history. In short, an earlier version of the song was released as a B-side in 2010 as "Untitled" and then performed live in 2010 as "Nothing Is Written" before being slightly changed to become "I Will Wait". The problem is I have no usable sources for all this. So if anyone knows of a review or interview that can confirm this to Wikipedia's sourcing standards, please pop over to I Will Wait and add it there. 99.192.92.202 (talk) 23:30, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest a splitting of this article.[edit]

From what I understand, the amprasand denotes that they are two separate artists (will.i.am & Britney Spears)(Macklemore & Ryan Lewis). Whereas the written out "and" denotes that it is one band or artist who happens to have and in their name (Of Monsters and Men)(Hootie and the Blowfish). This is why we should split the article into a Mumford article and a sons article.TBWarrior720 (talk) 22:29, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article is missing criticism[edit]

We need to add in some of the well-sourced criticism of this band. Ex:

Copy and pasting huge quotes[edit]

I have removed the copy and pasting of this article. We cant copy and paste so much even if attributed. Pls see Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. -- Moxy (talk) 18:54, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

sources/citations on "musical style & development"?[edit]

It's all very nice and well, but without any sort of citation of sources it's about as literarily valid as fanfiction. Can anyone provide a source that isn't just Macbeth? 76.167.97.104 (talk) 06:42, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictory information[edit]

We are told that "In December 2012, Winston Marshall told NME that the band was rehearsing and writing for their next album [Wilder Mind]", then later on that "Mumford and Sons took a five-month break before returning to the studio in February 2014 to start work on their third album". Which is correct? 80.2.106.75 (talk) 16:29, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Musical Style and Development[edit]

There is no references that validate the band's literary references. Is this an observation or a fact? Did the band actually confirm their influences? Without a source there is no way to know.Lavalos966 (talk) 05:32, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gentlemen of the Road[edit]

This is a huge movement for the band. Their shows titled Gentlemen of the Road took them many places for a long period of time. The content under this heading is only one or two sentences. Also, the addition of the Austin 500 Tour which is their most recent tour would update the currency of the page a great deal.Lavalos966 (talk) 05:35, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Neo-folk" genre removed[edit]

Why was this genre removed from the infobox?SynthCovers (talk) 00:15, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Neo-folk, if you care to visit its page, is defined by experimentality and an occult influence. Mumford & Sons displays none of that. There is a big difference between something like "The Frolic" and "I Will Wait." Dellavien (talk) 00:57, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps, though it was called neo-folk in the source. I'll leave it up to others to decide. SynthCovers (talk) 01:08, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
