Wonder Woman[edit]

Wasn't she pretty much confirmed in the initial announcements of the game? I'm sure Ed Boon mentioned her or the "biggest", as if that's not confirmation enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.156.202.164 (talk) 11:04, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I heard she was also mentioned in the 3rd MKast episode too. That could also confirm her appearance. Dark Rain —Preceding undated comment was added at 19:37, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unless she is blantantly stated as being in the game by the develepors, she's not confirmed. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 09:35, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New User[edit]

Hi guys! I registed up because I wanted to edit this to stay true to the reality! Protection[edit]

I concur. People are continually posting unconfirmed characters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.189.209.48 (talk) 09:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You got it. No more personal attacks. However you did protect the CORRECT version. There isn't really anything to gain by filling the article with 'wrong information'. Thank you again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.126.179.116 (talk) 10:43, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, Poison Ivy, Sindel, Mileena, Catwoman, and Shang Tsung are confirmed characters. I saw them listed on this one online video interview with Ed Boon, about the game.72.129.226.113 (talk) 18:10, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Storyline?[edit]

Didn't Ed Boon state somewhere that the current storyline was finished and that MK8 was going to have a brand-new storyline with completely different characters? --71.199.77.215 01:51, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Hello there! I have been in the midway boards (official boards of the game) for 3 years, know a lot about mortal kombat and I'll say this : Ed Boon didn't told anyone what the story was about, how it would be, it remains a mystery for now! Wii version[edit]

Can anyone confirm this? Best, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 06:56, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All the major game sites have MK8 under a Wii page, but the last update from the MK team only discussed the confirmation of the PS3 and 360, also unconfirming the PC version. Even if the game sites knew something we didn't, there's no confirmation yet. --Kombat Krave 23:21, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Hi again! Ed Boon said that Unreal Engine (modified) doesn't work for the Wii so probably Mortal Kombat 8 won't come out for Wii! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.22.37.39 (talk) 14:45, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cut-and-paste move[edit]

Well I saw a trailer about the title and midway said Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is really happening. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GregFK2 (talkcontribs)

That's not the point. This article is a copy-and-paste of the Mortal Kombat 8 article, which is not how moving an article to a new title should be done. The speedy deletion notice is there to merge the histories of that article and this one. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 09:07, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When was Liu Kang confirmed?[edit]

He's been added to the characters section but I don't see any sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.118.238.102 (talkcontribs)

Liu Kang and Captain Marvel were confirmed in both the second MKast at worldscollide.com and the Gamespot pre-E3 hands on review. Catwoman and Shang Tsung were both confirmed in the July 4th Game Trailers TV episode as well as the trailer on Gamespot.com and the renders on worldscollide.com.

- Hi! Sorry to be such a posty guy but this man knows what he's talking about! Ed Boon (the producer of the game) only confirmed:

Scorpion and Sub-zero from Mortal kombat universe

Batman and superman from DC universe!

I don't remember Ed Boon confirming more then four characters at this time. I heard he's trying to push for the 22 character mark but thats it. The only known characters are Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Batman and Superman. Does anyone have confirmation of these other characters are actually in it? FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 19:24, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I thought. Yeah, only Batman, Superman, Sub-Zero and Scorpion are confirmed. Everything else is speculation. The fact that the poster is claiming to be a Midway employee makes his information even more suspect.206.12.28.249 (talk) 22:05, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They aren't commonly used, but it is a small inclusion and I don't see why they're always deleted. For now at least it couldn't hurt, so I started one that can be updated, altered, or deleted. --Kombat Krave 00:04, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Characters[edit]

Is it true that Mortal Kombat contains only three characters??? Volkov talk 15:10, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The full list of characters is still being announced. While it is unlikely that there will only be three total characters from Mortal Kombat, it is true that, as of now, we only know of three. EVula // talk // // 15:57, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to what I heard, there will be 20 - 22 characters. 10 or 11 from each universe. But for now, the only 6(3 per universe) characters known are under the characters list. FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 06:12, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

10 or 11 characters for each side! Boon said it himself!

Technically Incorrect[edit]

"This will be the first game in the franchise that will not bear the "M" Rating as confirmed by the producer Ed Boon in a video interview."

Not true since the first few MKs came out before the rating system was established. The first game had no rating, it was censored on Nintendo and blood and fatalities were unlockable on Sega; the second game was violent on all systems and had a general warning about blood and gore but it was still before the ESRB system was invented.69.11.253.98 (talk) 21:45, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is safe to say that Ed Boon's comment is concurrent with the existence of the ESRB rating. --Kombat Krave 15:22, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catwoman?[edit]

Any citations on this? FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 06:22, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The history of that was an unofficial source at Fuzz Dork's, originally they had a mugshot image and Midway had them remove it. Now they're just screaming to everyone Catwoman is confirmed. Since Midway didn't officially release information on Catwoman I'm not sure what to do. --Kombat Krave 15:29, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since Fuzz Dork's is a fan site, its not allowed. Do not add catwomen on to the list unless you have proof.--Lbrun12415 15:51, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, thats what I thought. FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 17:12, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Total Mortal Kombat has received the full render, so I guess it is legitimate to add her now. Master Spider (talk) 10:26, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thats a fan site we can't use it, unless you find another source then we can add her. fan sites add a lot of bull for example they said that PS3 and the 360 will have exclusive characters which is a lie in an interview they said that there will be no difference in the game they will have the same characters levels etc...--Lbrun12415 16:11, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Might be something to this rumor after all. view this source. It's from the official Midway forum. But I don't know. FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 18:06, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That was posted by TMK, the administrator for TotalMortalKombat, it still wasn't posted by Midway or 'officially released'. As it states, the source does not want to be named. In any case, it's safe to say that is enough proof to at least earn Catwoman inclusion in the Confirmed Characters list, despite the absence of an official source. --Kombat Krave 22:11, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If we have the following: magazine name, issue number, and publisher, as well as the article name, article author, page numbers (or, in the case of information, a legitimate/verifiable website that the fansite got their information from) then this is enough for us to bypass the fansite altogether and correctly reference the original source - the magazine itself. If we've got scans, and they are legit (common sense mode: high enough quality as to not be fake, and eventually verifiable by someone else buying the magazine) then we're good to go.--Lbrun12415 02:24, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Believe me CATWOMAN! is in the game! i have the proper render if anyone wants to give me their email addy i will send it! SHE IS IN THE GAME! no midway hasnt confirmed it but it leaked an i have proof!

Show proof then on here NO FANSITES OR FORMS THEY ARE NOT SOURCES.--Lbrun12415 22:58, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What we are/aren't looking for[edit]

  • We're not looking for "news" from fansites or forums for they are not true citations.
  • We're looking for either news from http://worldscollide.com, an interview(preferably a video) from Ed Boon, or an official announcement from midway and/or DC. FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 00:00, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another reason why you can't trust them if you read it again they said no Captain Marval and look who came up today, Captain Marvel. I don't believe they have the roster yet which they said would be(only saying the ones not announced)
Tim Drake, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern , Black Canary, Hawkman, Powergirl(Maybe they ment supergirl).
Kabal, Jax, Raiden, Kitana.--Lbrun12415 06:29, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About this[edit]

"In the end this number may vary, but it is considered a target number. Confirmed so far are Scorpion and Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, while Superman and Batman are the confirmed DC characters. Sonya Blade and The Flash were also seen in the screenshots, making Sonya Blade the third confirmed MK character for the game, and the first confirmed female from both sides of the worlds as well."

We already have a table for them, do we really need it? It makes it confusing to the readers b/c it is telling them twice who is in.--Lbrun12415 16:08, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, there's no knowledgeable gain. I'll remove it, and that can be changed if someone has a sensible reason to keep it (doubtful). --Kombat Krave 23:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Characters table[edit]

The history for this page is so unbearable with so many edits that I made the table from scratch. So that no one will ever have to make the table again...go to Edit...copy and paste. --Kombat Krave 05:38, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Characters are listed in alphabetical order.

Mortal Kombat characters DC Comics characters
Liu Kang Batman
Scorpion Captain Marvel
Shang Tsung Catwoman
Sonya Blade Flash
Sub-Zero Superman

I've seen some issues with the choice of alphabetizing as opposed to the pairing of each characters' names released. Just because the names have been released as a pair (Batman/Sub-Zero), doesn't necessarily meant that those two must fight each other in the game, so there is no good reason to pair them up in the table. Just a thought to pass on. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 13:36, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for brining that up. You don't know how mad I get when people change it, also many people from E3 said Batman vs Scorpion whiuch means DC heroe/villians can be paried up with anyone.
Also they never said they are face off but they Parallel to each other.--Lbrun12415 14:40, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lbrun, why did you say show proof, when I specifically stated that they were confirmed in the 2nd MKast? The thing is, you have to listen to the ENTIRE MKast before you say things like "show proof".72.129.226.113 (talk) 01:41, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UMM I did here on wiki you have to show were you got it.--Lbrun12415 02:41, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Shang Tsung and Catwoman being confirmed in the first MKast (a podcast detailing the production of the game)." This is from the WIKI article itself. Now, with the very definition of "MKast", and the fact that I said they were revealed in the "second MKast", I believe that I more than showed where I got it from. Not to mention the fact that you can't have a MKast 2, without having a MKast 1. Who was confirmed in the first? Shang Tsung and Catwoman. Who was confirmed in the second? Liu Kang and Captain Marvel. Where do MKasts come from? The OFFICIAL SITE. Now, using process of elimination (that and actually going to the site and listening to the ENTIRE MKast) everything was VERY obvious.72.129.226.113 (talk) 03:50, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's part of the series because it's under the MK name, but it's effectively a re-launching of the franchise (similar to Batman Begins and the rest of the Batman franchise). EVula // talk // // 02:23, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What? A reboot? Are you sure that's the case, and it's not just a non-canon spinoff, much like Marvel vs Capcom? I would hate for Mortal Kombat to be rebooted, especially since we don't even know which Armageddon ending is canon! Raiden X (talk) 17:45, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that was my understanding, but I may very well be mistaken about it. I can't even remember where I heard that, so take it with a grain of salt... EVula // talk // // 21:38, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright not a problem. Raiden X (talk) 03:09, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's definitely non canon, and has basically nothing to do with an MK/DC character's history. It is just a spinoff. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trini bwoi (talkcontribs) 18:07, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have a proposal for the page to protect it from vandalism...[edit]

Could we continue this lock and only allow users post suggestions in the discussion page to include characters? If a new character is confirmed, we don't need anyone going in all willy nilly to add them in, we need others to confirm this. So for my proposal, "Could we lock the edit function for the article until enough information is given to propose an edit of the article?" Yours truly, Subzerosmokerain (talk) 23:22, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you are saying, and with Comic-Con this week, there will not only be many edits but also many vandalizers out there. However, the point of wikipedia is to allow edits to give people a fair share of information I'm willing to help watch the site for non-cited material. Perhaps there is a way to heighten security without blocking this page? Popebenedict16 (talk) 13:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree because I've been editing (so that the page has true info) the page yesterday and a lot of idiots were spamming this! Storyline is in bewteen MK2 and MK3, pretty important[edit]

Source: http://tabmok99.mortalkombatonline.com/sdcc_2008_mko_fan_interview.txt

You might want to place that in the page. Sincerely, Subzerosmokerain (talk) 20:44, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Boon says "It has nothing to do one of the Mortal Kombat timelines", which means that it doesn't really matter where it would fall between; it's a "what if" scenario by his own admission. EVula // talk // // 06:13, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, where this game would fall in the MK timeline does effect some things. At this point in time there was no OIA, Sub-Zero was still a rogue Lin Kuei, and not the grand master, Shang Tsung had not yet regained his youth, the list goes on. So, despite the fact that it doesn't effect the MK story, the place in the timeline still holds some relevance.
It also says something about which MK characters will or could appear. Powerslave (talk|cont.) 00:16, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Caall me crazy, but isn't the 'storyline' to a fighting game roughly as important as the storyline to a porn movie? Which is to say 'not at all'? HalfShadow 00:18, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

no not really many players follow the story, and weather it is realtivly important or not it is still part of the game and should be covered accuratly. 209.244.31.40 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 01:40, 23 January 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Name change[edit]

I should mention this pre-emptively in case an edit war begins. "Captain Marvel" goes by the moniker "Shazam" for whatever reason, according to the official website. Love, Powerslave (talk|cont.) 06:49, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why is he called Shazam? Did Marvel Comics sue cause they happened to have a 'Captain Marvel' of their own or is it to appeal to the masses? Serious question and I won't edit 'Shazam' in any way, I'm just confused is all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.17.251.16 (talk) 16:45, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well boy am I stupid >.< I checked out the Captain Marvel page and apparently they're (DC) is allowed to use the Captain Marvel CHARACTER but NOT allowed to market his actual name, so instead they use 'SHAZAM' for, well, everything! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.17.251.16 (talk) 17:00, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Shazam" is also the current codename of Freddy Freeman, who now looks almost exactly like Billy Batson's Captain Marvel. Wikipedia hasn't really embraced this change. Regardless, if a character is listed as "Shazam" by the company/companies, it would make more sense follow their lead. Whether you link to Freddy's article or Billy's is the real question. 00:54, 28 July 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.190.113.77 (talk)

The character's name is Captain Marvel. I don't see much reason to change the display of anything. If Scorpion were being marketed as Hanzo, we'd still call him Scorpion... EVula // talk // // 06:11, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even though the character's name is Captain Marvel, he's going to appear in the game with the name "Shazam", so Shazam should be used, while linking to the Captain Marvel article. The same also applies for Flash and Joker, who are called "The Flash" and "The Joker", respectively, even though their names do not include the word "the" originally. So, it should be written Shazam (even though I also disagree on the fact that he is erroneously referred as "Shazam" in the game). Master Spider (talk) 12:09, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is no evidence that he will go by the name "Shazam" in the game. What we've seen so far is PROMOTIONAL art for him. Remember that DC is not legally allowed to use the moniker "Captain Marvel" to market the character, which explains why he's been marketed as Shazam so far. I agree that the character's name is Captain Marvel, not Shazam, so, despite what he is being marketed as, his name should appear as Captain Marvel. Also, your analogy using The Flash and The Joker does not work. Both of these characters originally had the "The" as a part of their names and are still occasionally referred to as such. Captain Marvel has never been named Shazam. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.130.102.119 (talk) 05:53, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No evidence? The official site is one of the most valid evidences itself, IF not the most, and the official site displays the character's name as "Shazam", NOT "Captain Marvel". So, it should be written Shazam, while linking to the article of Captain Marvel. And, about Flash and Joker, the most recent names of both of them are presented without "The". Still, their names will have "the", so they should be written as it. Master Spider (talk) 16:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The official site is a promotional tool for the game. As I previously stated, DC is barred from advertising Captain Marvel by name. That is why he is listed on the site as Shazam. This is the same reason his comic is titled "Shazam" and not "Captain Marvel" And until the game comes out there is no evidence that he will be referred to as such in the game. In addition, Flash and Joker are still referred to in the comics as "The Flash" and "The Joker" as well as simply "Flash" and "Joker" and were originally titled "The Flash" and "The Joker". It is still their name, even if those more familiar with them choose to refer to them less formally. Captain Marvel is not, nor has he ever been, named "Shazam". It makes no sense for there to be a mandate to keep incorrect information on a Wikipedia page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.129.226.221 (talk) 23:25, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But remember that the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth (or so it says here). What matters is that we can verify that he will be called Shazam in this game, even if it doesn't make much sense.Powerslave (talk|cont.) 01:04, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But it can't be verified that he will be called that in the game as no one has stated it. It is an assumption based on promotional art which literally can't bear the correct name due to legal reasons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.169.129.212 (talk) 05:03, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<-de-indent: It can be verified, off of the official website. Considering that they're making this with DC's approval, whatever name they end up with, it's with DC's blessing. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 12:33, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What are you talking about? This has nothing to do with "DC's approval". Marvel sued DC over the Captain Marvel name, so, while he is still allowed to use the name, he can't be advertised with the name. There is no evidence that he will be called anything besides Captain Marvel in the game, the users who say so are making an assumption based on promotional material, which, due to the aforementioned lawsuit, can not use the "Captain Marvel" name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.163.225.142 (talk) 20:49, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What I'm talking about is that since all we have to go by IS the promotional material, that's all we can use as a reference. Remember, verifiability not truth. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 02:39, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can it be verified that the character's name is Captain Marvel? Yes. Can it be verified that they can't legally use that name in promotional material? Yes. Can it be verified that, when advertising the character, DC uses Shazam? Yes. Can it be verified he will be called Shazam in the game? No. That is an assumption. And if we are going to make assumptions we should assume that the status quo will be maintained. And the status quo is that he is advertised undr the Shazam title, but he appears as Captain Marvel. Thhis is how things have always been since that lawsuit. Why do you all choose to assume that it is different this time? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.130.194.228 (talk) 07:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The site isn't a promotional truth, it showcases the changes in the game and what game contains. The name "Shazam" not appears on the artwork only, but also at the offical site's DCU characters section. Well, the name "Captain Marvel" cannot used due to legal reasons... So it cannot be used in the artwork too, okay. But, because of the same reason, it cannot be used on the game either. It's that logical. Apart from all of these, the site says "Shazam", not "Captain Marvel", so we're going for Shazam, even though Shazam isn't the name of the character actually. Master Spider (talk) 17:54, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The site is a promotional tool for the game, there is no arguing this. Unless you think the website for a coming game is LESS of a promotional tool than the cover of an actual comic. They can use the name in the game for the same reason they can use it in the comic. Saying they can't use it in the game is like saying they can't use "Captain Marvel" in the comic because they can't use it on the cover. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.129.37.128 (talk) 19:21, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To assume that it WILL be Captain Marvel, based on how they treat the character in the comic book, is still assuming. We can't assume anything about the name. We have to go by what we have, not what they've done with their comic. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 19:57, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is now officially a moot arguement. TrueGameHeadz.com recently released a hands on preview video of the game, which featured Captain Marvel heavily. He is indeed refered too in-game, both on the character select screen and his lifebar, as Captain Marvel, as many already speculated he would be. As such, I'm changing his name in the article, as we finally have proof, at long last, that he will be refered too in-game as Captain Marvel.76.16.57.78 (talk) 00:10, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I have been saying all along, the only reason they ever called him Shazam was because they couldn't legally call him anything else while promoting the game. There was no reason for, nor evidence that, they'd call him Shazam in the game. You simply assumed otherwise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.164.8.69 (talk) 05:19, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I never assumed anything. You'll notice that this is the first time I've posted in this discussion. Frankly I was on your side of the aruguement, and also thought he'd be called Captain Marvel, which is why I jumped on the opportunity to change his name. If you're just going to make pointless responses to say, "Haha, I was right, you were wrong." You should at least pay attention to who you're responding too, and make sure they're directed at the right person. 76.16.57.78 (talk) 22:28, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That wasn't directed at you, though, looking over it, I see how you could think it was. It was also not pointless it was to establish the point I've been making in case new artwork or some such thing came out bearing the word "Shazam" and someone attempted to use it as evidence that he isn't called Captain Marvel in the game. As it so happens something like that has just occurred after the site's revamp with the announcer's voiceover saying "Shazam" and not Captain Marvel. Again, I apologize if it seemed I was chastising you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.129.93.231 (talk) 02:45, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why is this even an issue anymore? We have seen game footage demonstrating the character's name is Captain Marvel, there is nothing more valid than footage of the actual game being played. The producers will never explicitly state his name is captain marvel because a. it shouldn't be an issue in the first place and b. they aren't legally allowed to. All the proof necessary has been provided, anyone refusing to leave his name as what it is is simply being pointlessly stubborn. I'm changing it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.132.193.113 (talk) 17:05, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Besides, this is not a game guide. The people who don't know what fatalities are will most likely head for the main Mortal Kombat article instead of a article talking about a spin-off and/or sequel of the series. All those pictures![edit]

Do we really need to have nearly every character on an article this small? One or two pictures would suffice as to properly illustrate the character designs. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 07:56, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Quasi, why do we need a picture of every character announced? Chaoshi (talk) 15:54, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I like the aesthetic, especially how it aligns with the table centering it. 216.162.220.41 (talk) 21:19, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If they're on both sides of the table, the table gets covered up (for me). Either they need to be on one side or, optimally, we pare it down to a single image (probably of the MK characters, since all the DC characters are just in their standard outfits, while the MK folk are getting redesigned a bit). EVula // talk // // 21:36, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's a nice idea in theory, but it's really not practical, having pictures of all the characters. Fin© 22:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We really only need a couple of the characters to show the quality level, and if people really want to see the pictures, they can follow the links to the official site. Wikipedia isn't a game guide or a depository of pictures, after all. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 23:35, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think an image of Sub-Zero and Batman (or some other pair) will suffice in making the point that the game is a crossover. An image of every character was a nice idea, but we really shouldn't have that there. Powerslave (talk|cont.) 02:33, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If those images are going to flank both sides of the "list of characters" table, then I think they should be re-edited to be portrait-oriented instead of landscape. Powerslave (talk|cont.) 14:46, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can oblige that, if there's agreement. --CmdrClow (talk) 10:21, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please do re-edit them. It renders horribly in Firefox. --Allemannster (talk) 00:57, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should wait for a full roster then we could re-place all the pictures including the table with a picture of a full roster.--Lbrun12415 08:39, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I'm going to question why we need to have images of the full roster of characters for an article this small. Wikipedia isn't a depository of images and this article isn't a game guide. If one wishes to see the whole slew of character renders, they can head over to the official website or see one of the many other sites that has all the pictures. There is no good reason, that I can see, to have every single character on this page. 2-4 character renders would suffice to show the graphics quality, but no more is necessary. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 09:07, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What I'm saying is we should get a roster after the game is released meaning a full character roster. Kinda like the one from Super Smash etc....--Lbrun12415 11:14, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you talking about the list roster or the group picture? ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 12:20, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What I'm trying to say is wait till the game is released. Once some one has gotten all 20-22 characters they take a picture of it then post that roster on here.--Lbrun12415 18:38, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can totally agree with waiting until the game is released for any pictures, but every character? That seems to be overkill. Not to mention all the reasons that I listed above. ~QuasiAbstract {talk/contrib} 23:26, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not saying every character just one picture showing all the characters like this one here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:MK_character_select.png or this here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:UMK3_Fighter_Glitch.png another one just so you will understand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mkt_select.png . Highly debated characters[edit]

It could be beneficial to put down a secton under roster with the same title as this post.

Reptile, Baraka, Mileena, Kung Lao and Johnny Cage are the highest characters debated everywhere, along with Lobo, Martian Manhunter, Doomsday, Darkseid, Aquaman, and Lex Luthor.

We could provide that title and under it say something like:

These characters are the most debated characters left to complete the roster, and list them all, MK to MK side, DC to DC Side, similarly to the actual roster. And also provide links to the characters' profiles so that newcomers who have no idea who some of them are, can see who they like and discuss it in the various MK and DC forums across the internet.

That way, the fans of each respective character will be satisfied that their character is highly debated thus having a higher than normal chance than being in. And people new to the franchise will learn about the oldies that we love that haven't been released in this game.

It's a thought, and I would rather have opinions of the topic right here rather than inserting the idea all willy-nilly. Sincerely, Subzerosmokerain (talk) 22:53, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speculation is the last thing that's needed on any coming release article. Online?[edit]

Didn't an interview say that there would be chat during fight intermissions? Like truegameheadz or something like that.Subzerosmokerain (talk) 13:48, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dark Kahn[edit]

Why was he removed from the roster? According to various sources, he is indeed a character in the game (the final boss, in fact), albeit not playable. Josh (talk) 04:12, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats speculation, just b/c the http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/mortal-kombat-vs-DC-universe/achievements/titleASC/ is called Dark Kan doesn't mean anything. Please wait for the game then we will know for sure.--Lbrun12415 04:20, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's not a very firm source for the name. We can afford to wait; there's no rush. EVula // talk // // 04:37, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even I could say something like Super-zero or Darkzero(please note these are only examples) but once again its only speculation.--Lbrun12415 04:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the roster be playable characters only? Why would it be added to the roster if there was several non-playable characters? ~Auzemandius {talk/contrib} 09:08, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It should. I will try to make a new section with another table called Cameo's but, I want to wait till the game is released.--Lbrun12415 20:29, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, we don't need to create a section until we actually have anything that we can put in it. EVula // talk // // 21:53, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
When you DO create it the section probably be titled something like NPCs instead of Cameos as, assuming that he isn't playable, Dark Kahn doesn't fit the definition of "Cameo" since he was created for this game specifically and he plays a major role in it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.132.193.113 (talk) 17:11, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Captain Marvel Naming Issue[edit]

It has been confirmed by gameplay footage that the charcater is named Captain Marvel in the game, not Shazam. Why has the page not been changed to demonsrate this?

because it works either way anyway billy can only turn into Captain marvel by saying? shazam!! he might not be the old man but still people remember him by the Name Shazam more then Captain Marvel since his series was at one time called ShazamVault9Dweller (talk) 20:07, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody calls him Shazam. Captain Marvel is the playable character in the game regardless of what he yells to become superpowered.

I thought his name was Shazam til I was about 13-Altman Be Praised (talk) 03:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Gameplay today on X-Play he was Captain Marvel. Ice (talk) 03:59, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay can change, though it's not likely that it will. It is still in testing. Until the final release, gameplay footage is likely to change. Unless we get it from a valid source (like the production company), it won't hurt to wait for the release of the game. ~Auzemandius {talk/contrib} 09:25, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

found a link of proof http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/previews/34499/Hands_On_Mortal_Kombat_vs_DC_Universe.html .--Lbrun12415 14:44, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also announced that there will be DLC's.--Lbrun12415 14:56, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'd say that justifies changing the name. One of the nice things about wikis is that we can always edit it if we get an even more recent source saying that he's just "Shazam". EVula // talk // // 15:24, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Censorship[edit]

I think a mention that the US release is a censored version of europe's should be included

Rivals[edit]

I just reverted an edit to do with the sub-zero/scoripion vs batman edit warring that appears to be happening which I probably shouldn't have. The section states that scorpion appears to be Batman's rival due to the box art and trailer. Isn't that just speculation and should it be deleted as it may stop people constantly changing it. If it has been confirmed can it be put right and then put the page up for protection to stop this constanly happening? Dark verdant (talk) 15:22, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I propose deletion of the sentence. If sub-zero is batman's rival then it shouldn't say "according to game art" as scorpion is clearly in front of batman on the cover (unless the makers have decided to change the colours of scorpion and sub-zero) I believe this may also stop or at least slow the edit warring that is happening. What does anyone else think? Dark verdant (talk) 08:38, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. It's actually speculation and using game art to determine this information can be contradictory. There was another piece of art showing Sub and Bats together. We can't determine this based on random screenshots and other advertisements. We don't even know if the designers actually determined characters to be rivals. ~Auzemandius {talk/contrib} 09:59, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plot/Story[edit]

A new section on the story line has been added. I think it needs some extra work, seems to be weighted more towards Mortal Kombat and includes speculation of why certain characters aren't in the game. I do not have the game so I don't know the storyline. Also someone in the talk pages stated the game is between 2 and 3 yet the new section states after 3. Not sure which would be correct. Dark verdant (talk) 12:37, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's no source for when the story takes place. I have the Kollector's Edition, and on the DVD, in one of the interviews it's specifically stated that there's no specific time and place that the game is set in. One of the DC guys even says that it's "the ultimate Elseworlds story" (and he wasn't talking about just the DC characters). EVula // talk // // 17:02, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ON PS2?[edit]

Any news on the game being in ps2? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.163.72.147 (talk) 14:06, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One of the selling points for MKvDC is that it's the first game native to the next-gen consoles (MKA was released for the Wii, but that was just a port with an extra character and different controls). I don't think the game will ever come to the PS2. It is an eight year old console at this point... I'm amazed that it's still a viable platform as it is. EVula // talk // // 18:32, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Character endings?[edit]

You thinks these should be mentioned in the article? Like how Batman built the OMACS, Liu Kang has a mental link with Flash, ect.?12.37.71.175 (talk) 01:36, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, not similar to Armageddon. EVula // talk // // 20:10, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Only M-Rated Mortal Kombat game"[edit]

This statement is false. The original Mortal Kombat Games were not rated by the ESRB, thus making it impossible to receive an M-rating. This error has been removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.74.34.60 (talk) 13:01, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Awards & Nomination[edit]

MK vs DC was nominated at Spike TV Video Game Awards 2008, it lost to Soul Calibar 4 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.76.195.206 (talk) 14:09, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, however under the Wikiproject: Video Games nominations are not considered notable enough, only awards. --Teancum (talk) 16:13, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rayden and Shao Kahn=Brothers?![edit]

It's not Mortal Kombat Annihilation, but on Lord Raiden's bio, it says that Kahn is his bro. What the hell!? (JoeLoeb (talk) 19:14, 30 June 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Green Lantern[edit]

I played the demo just a few months ago and the Green Lantern I played had the appearance of Kyle Rayner (with longer hair as he appeared in Superman #44), not Hal Jordan. This was due to his hair appearing black, as Rayner has, and not light brown, as with Jordan. Also see the Hal Jordan article. NorseNinja (talk) 14:08, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You need some sort of verification. Sincerely Subzerosmokerain (talk) 23:20, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, right, this image clears things up, then. It is Jordan, after all. It was probably because the level I played on had dark lighting. :) NorseNinja (talk) 12:50, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
