WikiProject for Defunct Airlines[edit]

I am in the process of creating a WikiProject for Defunct Airlines. In it, I am attempting to compile a list of past destinations for defunct airlines, with a particular interest in airports that are no longer served by airline service. A few days ago I added the Sullivan County Airport in Monticello, NY, (MSV) in the Catskills. It's been deleted, and a question was directed at me as to a source for this. I worked for Mohawk Airlines from January of 1969 until it became a part of Allegheny Airlines in April of 1972. During the summer of 1969 and (I think) perhaps also 1970, we flew seasonally into that airport, meaning during the summer, probably from around Memorial Day until a little after Labor Day. I regret that I do not have a schedule from that time so I could quote specific flight numbers and times, but we did fly there. Probably we had somewhere from two to six flights per day, probably only between NYC and MSV, but maybe somewhere north, such as Albany or Syracuse. But I can only swear to NYC-MSV routes. I cannot tell you for certain which of the NYC airports the flights operated to and from, since Mohawk Airlines actually operated in and out of all five NYC airports: LaGuardia, JFK, Newark, White Plains, and Islip.

In part because the service was seasonal, to get summer vacationers to and from the Catskills, it didn't make enough money to continue. But I clearly recall the service. I suppose a search of old newspapers would give us more information. Would the CAB have its records on deposit somewhere? The FAS? Some kind of history of airline routes would be helpful here.

198x-1992 Version[edit]

We need an article on the last reincarnation of Mohawk, hubbed in SYR, which died around 1992 because the FAA grounded it for safety reasons. -newkai t-c 14:16, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
