Vandalism[edit]

This article has been vandalized. This man was not a soldier. And Malaysia never had any Field Marshalls. 2001:D08:F0:F060:20B6:CA27:513A:A368 (talk) 15:36, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The information on him being a field marshal was introduced in edits by @SpinnerLaserzthe2nd , no sources were cited despite Wikipedia:Verifiability to support this statement. However, according to the article on Malay Wikipedia he did serve as an infantryman in the Johor forces in World War II; a published book is cited for that statement, but I have not seen the book myself. Also tagging @EmpAhmadK here, who was the last person to edit this article before the unsourced edits. Given the above I am reverting the article to that revision. The book does indeed state that he serve as a volunteer infantryman which even included photo evidence. I shall quote the book from page 90 where it says "Mohamed Hamzah telah menyertai JVF [Johor Volunteer Forces] pada tahun 1939 dalam 'Pasukan Machine Gun Coy'. Semasa Perang Dunia Kedua, Mohamed ditugaskan oleh tentera British di kawasan-kawasan luar bandar bersama tentea [sic] Australia terutama di kawasan pinggir Johor Bahru. Hasil khidmatnya yang cemerlang dalam JVF, beliau dianugerahi empat bintang 'Second World War Defence Medal' oleh Kerajaan Inggeris."
This can be translated as "Mohamed Hamzah has joined the JVF in 1939 in the Machine Gun Coy. During the Second World War, the British military deployed Mohamed in rural areas along with Australian soldiers especially around the coastal areas of Johor Bahru. As a result of his excellent service, he was awarded four stars of the 'Second World War Defence Medal' by the English Kingdom."
However, the book never stated that he was a field marshall, and that part cannot be confirmed as of now, unless if otherwise proven. EmpAhmadK (talk) 16:10, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

In at least one online source and the corresponding article in Malay Wikipedia his birthplace is given as Kandang Kerbau Hospital in Singapore. This was also updated in the infobox but the main text was left unchanged at the time. I have now updated this and cited the source that I was able to access. This was reverted by another editor without explanation, so I am explaining my reasoning here. Kbseah (talk) 09:40, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
