AFD instead of PROD, please[edit]

If this article faces deletion, it should be at AFD. While I realize that his current notability stems in large part from a WP:BLP1E situation (his hit on Ben Fanelli, for which he received an effectively lifetime ban from the OHL), I believe he has received sufficient coverage external (323 hits on Google news alone, though many relate to the aforementioned event or are routine coverage) to that event (which was in and of itself controversial) to meet WP:GNG (for example, he received a suspension at UBC for instigating/fighting, also contested by his team). Additionally, his incident sparked a major re-evaluation of how all hockey leagues treat hits to the head, and is consistently referenced in situations involving excessive roughness by other hockey players. He currently plays in the ECHL, and while he doesn't meet the 100 game mark (he will most likely reach it in 2012–13), it is worth noting that BLP1E states "If reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event and if, outside of the event, that person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual, we should generally avoid having an article on them." While I submit that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, I believe that it is unlikely that Liambas is going to remain a low-profile individual. I don't think the article should be deleted simply for not meeting the WP:NHOCKEY checks in the box, nor for "just being a college player." Just my two cents. The ONLY reason this person has an article is because he nearly killed someone. Intentionally. How is that within ANY Wikipedia rules? This article screams speedy deletion. Leo711 (talk) 07:09, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
