This is NOT the only X Rated movie to receive an Academy Award nomination. Robert Altman and Marlon Brando were nominated for Last Tango in Paris, also released with an X rating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.126.210.9 (talk) 04:02, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Not sure I understand. Altman had nothing to do with Last Tango. Also, article makes no claim about other nominees in other Oscar categories, stating only that Cowboy was the first X-rated "Best Picture" winner. (It's the first and only.) Relgif (talk) 06:24, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Active-archiving: Just what IS with the bots on this page?

“How come legitimate question postings on this page get swept off to archive oblivion after just seven days? I've been trying to start a discussion about music in Midnight Cowboy, and bots keep jamming it into archive after just a week.--HarringtonSmith (talk) 12:33, 11 September 2009”. Still a reasonable (and unanswered) question in 2014.

In popular culture

This article doesn't have this section. The obvious pop culture reference is Seinfeld episode that parodies the film. Also well known is people doing the "I'm walking here!" shouted by "Ratso" when crossing the road and almost run into by pushy driver. (used in many movies ?) Any others?Ern Malleyscrub (talk) 07:41, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

More info on the pre-production, anecdotes from shooting, etc.

The "production notes" section for this film is a little piecemeal and could do with some enhancement.

There is an excellent long article from Vanity Fair here that talks in depth about the journey of the film from concept through to release. Would be useful to whoever has the time to excerpt from it.
