Gone in Vista?[edit]

Is the original raster version of MS Sans Serif gone in Vista? I don't have a copy of Vista to check... --Nyletak ♥

I would expect this to be true as MS Sans Serif is not a True Type Font, Microsoft Sans Serif is. Vista tried to ditch all .fon fonts -NeF (talk) 00:36, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about Win7?[edit]

I've looped through InstalledFontCollection() in C# .NET and in my Windows 7 Professional OS, there is no FontFamily named "MS Sans Serif". Instead there is "MS Reference Sans Serif" and "Microsoft Sans Serif". When I request the "MS Sans Serif" font using the C++ Windows SDK CreateFont("MS Sans Serif", 8) function, I do get a font, and based on things I've seen on other discussion boards, it would appear that it is the "MS Reference Sans Serif" font, since it behaves like a raster font, not a truetype font (see note from User Nyltak above) It would be helpful if someone from Microsoft would confirm (or deny) that Microsoft has replaced "MS Sans Serif" with "MS Reference Sans Serif" as of Windows 7 or some such statement.Sloughin (talk) 16:57, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Font preview[edit]

Not unsurprisingly, the font preview displays on my computer (Firefox 2 on Ubuntu Gutsy) as Bitstream Vera Serif. I imagine the MS Sans Serif preview will only work on Windows, and the other one will additionally work on Leopard, but nothing else. I've added a technical note (in a {{selfref}} tag) to this effect, but what's really needed is an image illustrating it. Hairy Dude (talk) 23:38, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is quite broken. I've just removed it and pasted it below. Someone needs to render the font into an image as it is done on other articles. This is pretty unprofessional and broken. —mako ๛ 20:19, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Helvetica[edit]

Should it be pointed out that the font is extremely similar to Helvetica (much more so than Arial), and the former name of "Helv" makes it even more obvious that this is the case? Avatar-X (talk) 03:36, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I came to this page was to find out how obviously similar these fonts are.

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]
