Notability and citations[edit]

Hi there, VQuakr, I saw you put up notability and improveBLP tags for this article.

1) how does this guy fail to meet the notability guidelines? He was frontrunner to lead McKinsey twice. 2) what isn’t properly sourced?

Greetings. The two tags are related - basically so far the secondary sources that mention him at all, mention him only trivially; ie he is not the subject of these articles. Being runner-up to lead a company is not a huge factor for notability per WP:BIO. Based on the primary sources it seems plausible that such secondary sources do exist, hence the tags to encourage them being added to the article. VQuakr (talk) 21:13, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I checked out WP:BIO and it doesn't have any notability guidelines for businesspeople. What are your thoughts? I've added a talk topic to WP:BIO. Seems like a pretty glaring oversight not to have some established consensus on this.

I personally do not think there is any need for specialized criteria for businesspeople; WP:BASIC and WP:ANYBIO seem to cover it and compliment the WP:GNG pretty well. If there are no secondary sources it is not really possible to write a verifiable article about a subject regardless of what specialized criteria there might be. Hm, I'm confused (and new at this), so please bear with me.

  • There are secondary sources, but they mention him trivially. So it is possible to write a verifiable article.
  • I think key executives in large companies could in fact be a notability criterion; they are the equivalent of key politicians of large territories. It's like trying to find who the #2 person is at Boeing. That person's important, even if they want to remain low profile and have few primary sources.
  • You could interpret a CEO position of a major company to be an honor, or a nomination multiple times etc. That fits in verbatim with WP:ANYBIO.

Trivial mentions means confirmation of existence, which does not equal verifiability. Similarly, the #2 person at Boeing (if that is their only claim to fame in this random example) could easily be mentioned in the Boeing article if all that needs to be included is his or her name. While I think many of the CEO's of Fortune 500 companies are notable, probably not all are let alone all of the top 5. This is why I favor a more flexible criterion like the GNG. I do not think CEO really qualifies as an award or honor in the same way that a "person of the year" type recognition is an award. I suggest that if we want to continue to discuss notability of businesspeople at a guideline level, we should do so at the NBIO talk page where you started a section so it can get broader attention. Meanwhile, if there really are no secondary sources of which Patsalos-Fox is the subject, we might want to consider a merge with McKinsey & Company. VQuakr (talk) 03:05, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A couple errors[edit]

I support McKinsey & Company in their engagement with the Wikipedia community in a public relations capacity.

I would like to request we remove the salary information in the infobox, because it is incorrect and unsourced.

Also, Michael is no longer a McKinsey employee. A couple sources[1][2] from last year show he was planning to retire from McKinsey (albeit they are not really high-quality sources and don't confirm that he did in-fact retire). What's the best way to handle?

Thanks for making use of the COI template and for your note on my talk page. I removed the salary information as unsourced contested information per WP:BLP. Vandalism[edit]

Hi there - I represent Michael in a public relations capacity at his current company. There is a lot of obvious vandalism on this page (e.g., "birthplace: Narnia, Alma mater: your mom, expert in: being rich and proctology..."). There are also irrelevant photos posted. Can an editor without a conflict of interest please address?

Correction and Update[edit]

Hi - I am making a request for an edit as a party with a COI (I work at Michael's current company). The current title listed is incorrect; he is now Chief Executive Officer of Stroz Friedberg, and the external link to his official bio is also incorrect in that it is outdated. The current bio confirming his title and company affiliation can be found here. I'm also including a third party link confirming the appointment to this position, which was official November 2013. I would appreciate an editor's assistance in making these corrections. The article itself should also reflect this update for accuracy. Oops, that is another illustration of Google's not being trustworthy - I searched to see what on earth the company does and Google showed me a map and address for their SF location, because they know I have recently searched from Left Coast IPs.
