Fair use rationale for Image:Michael O'Brien.jpg[edit]

Image:Michael O'Brien.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

O'Brien/Farrell incident[edit]

The event involving O'Brien offering to stand aside for Farrell in Napier is a significant event, during which the Premier stated he would consider resigning if Farrell was pre-selected. Despite the fact that we are WP:NOTNEWS on WP, I believe this event is notable in terms of both O'Brien and Farrell, as well as Weatherill, and should be included here. It was well-sourced from the ABC, and Indaily, the Advertiser and Australian have also published a number of articles about it in today's papers. Thanks, HungryPseph (talk) 21:53, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Frickeg (talk) 23:12, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've restored the Farrell incident to the lead, as his subsequent resignation from the ministry is certainly lead-worthy. HungryPseph (talk) 06:32, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
His resignation is notewothy, but is it correct to describe this as "...[O'Brien's] abortive attempt to have Senator Don Farrell pre-selected for Napier". I would have though this was simply a case of O'Brien standing aside for Farrell, rather than O"Brien's attempt to get Farrell preselected. - Bilby (talk) 07:43, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty relaxed about that, my point really is that the resignation should be in the lead. I'll tweak it. Thanks, HungryPseph (talk) 07:56, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Bilby, but the new wording is a little awkward too since it implies that Farrell was preselected. Possibly the Farrell bit shouldn't be mentioned in the lead and Napier definitely doesn't need to be named again. I would suggest: "He resigned from Cabinet on 31 January 2014, at which time he also announced that he would not contest the upcoming state election." The Farrell incident receives plenty of coverage further down - while it's clearly notable, I'm not sure it's so notable that it's essential in the lead. No prob. Will make that change. HungryPseph (talk) 09:58, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
