Citation format[edit]

I note that one of the recent changes ran a tool that made some things more consistent. Thanks for your help.

In general, the changes for date consistency, etc. were welcome. However, in a couple of cases the tool removed short form pinpoint cites I had added for sources that already had a previous long cite listing the whole book title, ISBN, etc. This creates multiple long cites for the same source (in different formats from what I used), rather than one long cite and then future cites being linked short cites as there's no need to repeat all the information again.

Example: The first long cite would be "Smith, John. A Helpful Reference Book. Simon and Schuster, 2006, p. 10. ISBN XXXXXXX." with a Google books link to p. 10 if appropriate and available. Then a subsequent short cite to a different page of Smith would be "Smith, p. 5." with a link to p. 5. No need in my mind to repeat the whole long cite to Smith again as the only reason for the short cite is to cite a different specific page.

I don't want to do an "undo" since the majority of the changes were helpful, it is just a couple of affected cites. I'd like to just change those back manually as I think it makes the cites easier to follow, and this seems to have been caused by the tool not recognizing a short cite and thinking it is something that needs to be "filled out".

Edited to add, I note on the Wiki page regarding citations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Types_of_citation it specifically states that templates should not be added to pages that already use a consistent citation style, without consensus. That appears to be what happened here as my citation style is consistent (at least reasonably) and I do not use templates. So, I have gone ahead and changed the short cites back since there was not "consensus" on use of the template. Thanks, TheBlinkster (talk) 12:12, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"A Round Trip"? Seeking more info[edit]

Hello, I'm the original creator of this page for Michael Greer. As required by Wikipedia, I have no connection with him and only found out about him in the last few months from watching a few old movies and TV shows. I thought he was handsome so I researched him and found him a very interesting subject.

There are a few areas where I still had questions and if anybody happens to read this page and can provide some info, I'd be interested to know more.

I found an item in the Pomona Progress-Bulletin from June 10, 1976, that said, "The musical fantasy 'A Round Trip,' by Michael Greer, opened this week at the Whiskey Theater, Los Angeles." Since I know there are several "Michael Greers" listed on IMDB alone, I was not sure if this was the same "Michael Greer", although based on the location in LA and the fact that he did write musicals, it seemed possible. I could not find any more info about this production anywhere in the web or the news databases to which I have access. If anyone knows any more about this "musical fantasy", please let me know.
Also, I would be very interested in getting copies of the Advocate articles about Michael Greer from 9/2/70, 12/27/71, 11/8/72, 11/6/74, and 2/21/80 that are abstracted at this link: http://connection.ebscohost.com/tag/GREER%252C%2BMichael

I have the 2002 obituary. I understand that the other, older articles are not currently available in full text from the EBSCOHost database, and so far I have not been able to track down any hard copies on eBay or from back issue dealers, etc.

I knew Michael personally. I met him in a restaurant in Hollywood named Coffee Dan's sometime in the Sixties, I don't remember the actual date. We struck up a friendship (I prefer to not go into personal stuff) and he invited me to his performances at The Redwood Room. I loved his act. At that time, there was another performer at the same venue named Troy Walker, but that's another story. Michael appeared on the Tonight Show on NBC and did his Mona Lisa act superbly. The audience was in stitches, I just don't remember if the host was Johnny Carson or Jack Paar. Jobber106-badboy (talk) 15:24, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
