Notability?[edit]

I did some research in response to the Notability? template inserted March 2011. From some Googling, I was unable to find any substantive references to Prof. Barr or his work from multiple independent sources. I specifically checked the CRM-Fields-PIMS award history for Canadian mathematicians; he is not listed. I am not sure of the comp sci equivalent, but found no mention of awards. There are various other wiki articles that link here, but essentially they occur because they have as a reference one of M. Barr's papers; this article does not provide much additional information. The technical content of this article was contributed by the original author in 2007; all subsequent edits seem to be formatting or categorizing, rather than content addition. So with due respect to Prof. Barr, unless others can identify some specific "notability" measures (number of citations of key articles...???), I would recommend deleting this wiki article. The technical topics already exist as articles, and his contribution to them is clear in those articles by the reference to his publication(s). Gierszep (talk) 01:07, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He meets point 5 of Wikipedia:Notability_(academics)#Criteria. We run into the problem of third-party sources a lot with academics, and often judge them based on citations and/or things like this as an alternative. --joe deckertalk 03:07, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reference error?[edit]

' 3. ^ Rota, G. (1986). Toposes, triples and theories , Springer, 1985, 345 pp. Advances in Mathematics, August, 61, 2.' is surely wrong, Rota is not one of the authors. Perhaps this is a review. 86.185.221.209 (talk) 12:16, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is a short review at [1]. Perhaps it would be best to adjust the title of the reference, but it is in fact Rota. --joe deckertalk 03:13, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
