I just wanted to say it would be nice to have more information on if the car in the picture is a European or American model.

The Coupe pictured is a euro version with USA headlamps installed. It's a perfect example of a grey market car. The red car is an early euro version with the correct early euro headlamps. It's a wonderful looking car actually.

I think the photos on this page need to be completely revised (no offense to photographers)

The biggest giveaway is the euro bumpers. Lacking a side view mirror on the right is common on european versions. The front corner markers are the darker, european orange colour. The car also appears to have been hit pretty hard in the front. There is overspray on the lower grilles indicating a shoddy repair. I personally have owned a european model for almost 10 years (1985 280TE) and have learned to spot these cars pretty easily :-)

reputation[edit]

these cars are regarded by many as the pinnacle of mercedes cars, i'm surprised theres not more about that. its also said all over the internet that the diesel cars are just about the most reliable cars ever made, this is a story i've read more than once--Santahul 22:07, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Having owned a W123 and a W124 for, respectively, 12 and 18 years, I tend to believe that overall the W124 slightly better than the W123. If the shock absorbers of a W123 are not in good condition, it becomes a very lousy drive on wet roads, whereas the W124's multi-link rear suspension is much more forgiving. As for reliability... These things are bulletproof. My 1984 W123 was my daily driver for 7 years, and I still have it. The engines last over half a million miles, regularly. I've seen these things still operating as taxis in so many countries: India, Liberia, Kenya. I think more info on longevity needs to be in here. Skirts89 (talk) 15:20, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Need better pictures[edit]

Systemic US bias[edit]

There's quite a strong United States bias on this page. I've replaced the infobox image with the one used on the German page. There is a heap of useful information at de:Mercedes-Benz W123 which could be incorporated into the article - for example, the second life of many European models in Africa and Asia is completely unmentioned here on en: so far. doco (☏) 05:13, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

more details[edit]

The beginning of the article needs more specific information to explain the difference between W123 and its predecessor, W115. This article notes that W123 is 'larger', but what were the exact changes in dimensions? What motivated these changes? I'm told that mechanics prefer working on W123 compared to W115, that W123 was a more 'user-friendly' chassis -- though this might also have to do with the shift from the 615 to the 616 engine for the diesel models. 192.234.13.19 (talk) 17:14, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
