West-Semitic & Hurrian[edit]

"Two of their names are West-Semitic in origin, though none are Hurrian." - This sentence seems to imply that Hurrian is a West Semitic language, which it isn't. And it's not clear why we'd expect any of their names to be Hurrian. Can someone clarify what's going on here? Furius (talk) 21:38, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't (yet) have access to the source being cited there so I can't be 100% sure but looking at the chapter on names in Lilyquist et al (p.329-332), it seems this is a slightly confused redux. The chapter states that the name Manuwai was suggested to be Hurrian by Helck in 1971 but that this is now considered unlikely and her name is most likely Semitic. The only snag in this is that the name doesn't end with a feminine -t so it is possible the name is shortened Merytat3n (talk) 22:31, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've attempted to clarify this, let me know if I succeeded! Merytat3n (talk) 01:21, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
