In one of his books, he mentions his two daughters, his step son, and his step sons wife. He loved all of them. They all had one wacky bond together. He loved his beloved grandchildren and girlfriend. L.A. Times called him the "Funniest Professor". When he was with his students, he treated them with respect, loyalty, and like his own children. He loved to teach. Teaching was his life. Melvin died on April 11, 2009. His memorial service was on August 8, 2009. He is loved by all his collegues, students, and family. On the back of the flyer from the service it says:

Wrong university department[edit]

Professor Helitzer did NOT teach in the sports and recreation department. He was a journalism professor at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. He taught both undergrad and graduate classes in Public Relations and Advertising. The Comedy Writing class was mostly taken by PR and Adv majors because it was so awesome for helping people punch up their copy and breathe some life into it. He was a very tough teacher, but fair, and we all learned a lot. He at least deserves the respect to be associated with the correct department at the university to which he dedicated so many years. 205.223.222.55 (talk) 14:22, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
