Living National Treasure[edit]
As far as I know, the national system for Preservers of Important Intangible Cultural Properties, informally called "living national treasures," has never been extended to the martial arts. The closest thing I found to a decent source for this claim was the bio on fightingarts.com which cites a book "Okinawan Karate-do Goyu-ryu Meibu-kan" self-published by Yagi Meitetsu. Such an incredible claim deserves better.
