DSM ambiguity?[edit]

The department awards the Distinguished Service Medal posthumously to members of the service who suffer death as a result of illnesses associated with duty performed under unusual hazard or demand…

Technically, an "illness" can be any unhealthy condition, but here it seems like sn odd choice of words, doesn't it—like it's a common thing for NYPD officers to be exposed to life-threatening contagious disease? 🤷‍♂️ How about omitting "illnesses associated with"? That seems clear enough, but I thought I should get some consensus rather than just making the change. – AndyFielding (talk) 07:35, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
