McMaster never reveals the brand names of the products it sells

One thing that I have noticed is McMaster never tells you who makes the product you are buying. Though I do recall a select few products that are. That applies to both their printed catalog and website. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? 24.186.130.27 (talk) 13:23, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

They are selective. Search for "Starrett" and you will find that company's precision hand tools. If you call McMaster-Carr's representatives, they will in some cases tell you the manufacturer of a specific item. Rainbow-five (talk) 23:03, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
It's not that they are selective. They don't tell you the brand so that if they don't have a particular brand in stock, or if they change their supplier, they can provide functionally the same product. They use brand names in cases where standardization isn't the norm (for instance, you may need a Milwaukee brand battery for one of your Milwaukee drills.) This is also done with products like Loctite. Source: I worked for them for several years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:558:1400:4E:290F:A26F:926D:55C1 (talk) 19:05, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
