Split Discussion[edit]

  • I just came across this page, and I'd like to say that I find it a little absurd that a section that is barely six lines long would be considered for this split. If anyone thinks that it would justify a separate article, than by all means add enough content to warrant it. Otherwise, the tag ought to go.09:20, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Can I just point out that Maja is spelt with a 'J', not a 'Y' as listed on this site. I know this as my name is Maja, and I was named after the bee! Please correct!!

Although Waldemar Bonsels is well known for his racist and antisemtic writings, it looks like the Maya book isn't. At the End of the Maya story Bonsels copied from Kaiser Wilhelm II. 's "Hunnenrede" (27.07.1900)((sorry, it's German:) http://www.sueddeutsche.de/kultur/tagung-zur-literatur-unsere-kleine-braune-biene-maja-1.1069120 ). Sadly you can have a lot of success by arbitrarily taking any book and blaming it of racism or militarism (a very useful word because it can mean everything you want - just compare the pathetic article on the subject) or anything else that's not considered politically correct where you live. The whole "analysis" part in this article is a joke. It only cites one source that's written in the Finnish language. And although I don't understand Finnish, I have the impression that it is actually rather sloppy. Just take a look at the list of works cited. The author doesn't even cite the titles correctly (and that means: fails at simply copying the letters!). For Bonsel's book it shouldn't be "Abentauer" but "Abenteuer" and "neugestalten" should be "neugestalteten". (I have no idea why the book appears once more at the end of the list, but I suppose that's just another sloppiness. At least there's a period the second time.) The family name of the well known French author is "Ariès", not "Ariés". And the German word "Jugendlitteratur" should be spelled "Jugendliteratur". The book is about nonconformism and individualism. It strongly advocates the postion of the individuum, but it does not single-minded say "be yourself", but paints a realitically complex picture of the relationship of individuum and society. Maya is anything but the "ideal citizen of a mlitaristic state". If there is a lesson it is in the lines of: As a bee (or a human being) you are inescapably a part of society, but still you are an individuum. You should always stay true to yourself, and if society denies you this right, you should object, and even leave. But you can never leave behind resoponsibility, and even if you don't see yourself as part of the society you stem from any more, you may find yourself in a situation you are ethically oblinged to stand in for it. Of course, patriotism is a main subject in the book, treated in a positive yet very critical manner, not with outright rejection as the German postwar newspeak demanded. Needs rework, or a funeral[edit]

This entire article needs a lot of work. - The plot section is more or less 1:1 the plot section from the Japanese anime page. There is no attempt to differentiate between the book, the 1975 anime or the CGI series. - The Analysis part is largly without sources, and has the smell of original research. It hasnt been improved in the past what.. 9 years? It will not get better, so lets get rid of it until someone comes around with a better sourced interpretation. Should one even be on WP? - The Main Characters section has problems (minor ones, like "or Germany" after Flips name). - It gets better afterwards, but in the state the article is in, a quick fact-check might be in order.

If you mean the whole article to be rewritten, then I agree about that because I have noticed that the article itself wasn't well-written when I last checked it and thought that it have been improved after so many years, but when I checked it, I was disappointed how this article ended up to be. Well, I first visited it back in the mid to late 2000s back when I was younger because I wanted to learn more about this series and this was the place when I first learned about the existence of the original book and other adaptations at that time. As for the book, I didn't read it until in late 2020/2021 after I started my Maya the Bee phase and yes, the book has a lot of differences when comparing it to the anime series and the CGI series which is just a reboot of the anime series with less episodes being adapted from the episodes of the anime series. Now, back to the article, I would like to rewrite it, but the problem is that English is not my native language which I actually came from a non-English speaking European country, but I did some minor changes to the article which also including the Main Characters section where I replaced "or Germany" with "or Philip" after Flip's name because in some international versions, he was called that. We can still wait for someone who have great knowledge of Maya the Bee or knows how to write plots in the sections for each book that he/she have read and hope Maya the Bee is one of them Nectaria the bee 09:58, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
