A minor change

I’ve just deleted the sentence that falsely claimed that Sir Matthew was a Knight of the Thistle. He was indeed knighted by the Queen; however he was made a Knight Bachelor, not a Knight of the Thistle, according to the London Gazette of 19 November 1875. It would seem that someone, quite understandably, misunderstood his post-nominal notation of “Kt.” confusing it for “K.T.”.

Colony of VI?[edit]

Wouldn't he also have been a judge in the Colony of Vancouver Island (I mean, he did live there and there were no other judges...). Don't want to add it to the lede unless sure....adding it makes hte opportunity to sort out the colonial name-confusion a bit easier, if it was the case he was similarly judge of the Island Colony Skookum1 (talk) 02:44, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That got me checking, I thought so too, but the answer is no, he was never a judge in the Colony of Vancouver Island. There was a Cameron who was, I think, the first Chief Justice, and a Needham was Chief Justice at the time the two colonies were united. It was only 3 years after the colonies were united that Needham resigned ending some bickering between the two of them, just one year before BC came into confederation in 1871, that he had a judicial position (Chief Justice) that included the Island. This deletion was highly questionable and more than slightly POV[edit]

This was removed by an IP user and strikes me as highly POV, and in at least one of the sources in the refs or the External links; the same IP user changed the date of death, from 1894 to 1898, which I have reverted and moved the Dict of Cdn Bio Online link from external links into the refs.Skookum1 (talk) 05:33, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Begbie's role in the hanging of Chilcotin Chiefs[edit]

I'd like to add the following paragraph to the main history. I am submitting it here for comment before I do that. Please provide feedback

In 1864, Begbie sentenced to death by hanging five chiefs of the Chilcotin Indians who were found guilty of complicity in the murder of 20 whites in what was known as the Chilcotin War. In 2014, at a ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the event, Premier Christy Clark apologized to the Tsilhqot’in people for "the wrongful hangings of the six Tsilhqot’in chiefs.” ^[1] Scruples98 (talk) 21:47, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Opening line[edit]

"Sir Matthew Baillie Begbie (9 May 1819 – 11 June 1894) was born on the island of Mauritius, thereafter raised and educated in the United Kingdom." is a weird way to start a biographical article.
