Matt Doherty (footballer, born 1992)Matt Doherty (footballer) – I don't see a valid reason as to why we need a year of birth identifier in the title of the article even if there is a Matt Doherty Sr. article. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:08, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: Both of these people are named Matt Doherty and both of them are footballers, so disambiguation is needed. Also, none of the sources cited in the Matt Doherty Sr. article actually call him Matt Doherty Sr. They all just call him Matt Doherty. Moreover, he had a son who was also a footballer that also played for the Derry City F.C., and based on the 1992 birth date, this person is probably not that son, so I think there are three different Matt Doherty footballers that are discussed on Wikipedia. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:06, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose For the same reasons that BarrelProof noted, also if it was moved to your suggested title and another footballer pops up with the same name, then it's the whole process of moving back to this name. It's pretty much already future-proofed, why would you need to mess with that? Govvy (talk) 11:22, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 12:35, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as new name proposed is ambiguous. GiantSnowman 12:36, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Clearly ambiguous. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:36, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, I now get the point that the year of birth is needed at all time. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:14, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was never intending to do the withdrawal, that was me saying that I do have more understanding as to why we have this article as it is titled throughout it's history. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:45, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I will leave the discussion open. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 20:49, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
