Why?[edit]

This article says something about the process of making someone a Mason at sight, but doesn't say why. As there is already a process by which people become masons, why is this necessary? What would be the reason for circumventing the usual process? Moonraker12 (talk) 22:10, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are differing rules between Grand Jurisdictions which govern the circumstances under which this may occur, or if it is permitted at all. From my understanding of my own Grand Jurisdiction (MWGL of FL), it falls under a combination of value of membership of the candidate, moral qualifications of the candidate, current bylaws, and will of the sitting Grand Master of the Masonic Jurisdiction. It is usually necessary for those not permitted or otherwise able due to health or the nature of their employ (especially political or military figures) to undergo the usual catechism work for advancement through the three symbolic degrees of the Blue Lodge.
