WikiProject Advertising[edit]

Encyclopedic coverage of general field of advertising could benefit from a dedicated Wikipedia:WikiProject Advertising. — Athænara 04:20, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Information not verified[edit]

User Segrant (contribs) added the following, for which no verification has been found in independent and reliable sources:

  1. ^ www.wowOwow.com Online. 5 March 2008.
  2. ^ www.wowOwow.com Online. 5 March 2008.

As per policies and guidelines which include Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and the biographies of living persons guideline, the unverified information should be removed.

Rather than removing it wholesale, I embedded it by commenting it out with <!-- --> markup so that it will be easier to include if and when it is verified. — Athaenara 00:30, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Renherring (contribs) has been adding the same unverified information to what looks like the same list of articles. What's going on here?

I posted about this on Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Single purpose accounts Renherring and Segrant and invite both users to click on the link and contribute to discussion there. — Athaenara 01:10, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bert Wells -> Burt Wells[edit]

Mary's first husband was named Burt, not Bert. I noticed the name is wrong in her book "A Big Life in Advertising", and I'm fairly certain all references you'll find that use Bert instead of Burt are likely due to that error.

His full name was Alfred Burton Wells, but he went by the name Burt, and used "Burt Wells" and "Alfred B. Wells" when doing business. I knew the man when he was alive and active in advertising late 60s/early 70s. Sources for the correct spelling:

["Ad Age" - Sep 2003] [1] "She married fellow student Burt Wells on Dec. 28, 1949, and moved to Youngstown.."

[Braniff's own website 2007] [2] "Mary Georgene Berg was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1928 [..] two years at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh where she met and married Burt Wells, an industrial design student, later an art director for Ogilvy & Mather."

[Aiken Standard Newspaper, Aug 20 1971] [3] "After theater school she spent two years in Pittsburgh at Carnegie Institute of Technology and met and married Burt Wells, then an industrial design student and now head of his own art services agency on Park Avenue."

[Famous American Women] [4] "Wells, Mary Georgene (1928-)..In December 1949 she married Burt Wells, with whom she moved back.."

I'd make the change myself, but not sure how to show that her biography has it wrong, and industry sources have it right (Ad Age, etc) so that the correct name would be clear. Greg ercolano (talk) 07:03, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
