Incorrect redirect[edit]

The phrase Marriage Equality incorrectly redirects to the article on Same Sex Marriage. Marriage Equality does not mean Same Sex Marriage, but rather the concept that all adults have a basic human right to marry another adult of his or her choosing. Marriage Equality can also refer to the right of people of different races to marry as well as people of the same gender. In the United States, Loving v. Virginia established marriage equality for people of different races in 1967, but the right to marriage remains unequal based on the gender of the two individuals desiring to be married. Just because the only impediment to achieving true marriage equality in the United States is the prohibition of two adults of the same gender to be married in most states and lack of full faith and credit by the Federal Government accorded to the domestic relations laws of states that do afford this right regardless of sexual orientation, that does not mean that Marriage Equality and Same Sex Marriage are synonymous.--Jjaesq talk 16:48, 26 March 2013‎

Restoring redirect target[edit]

I've restored this page to its longstanding redirect target of Same-sex marriage; it was recently changed to redirect to Marriage equality (disambiguation). Per MOS:DABPRIMARY, there is no reason a page title would ever be redirected to the same title with the (disambiguation) modifier. If there is no primary topic for a term, the DAB page would be located at the root title (Marriage equality, in this case). If that is the outcome sought, the appropriate way of going about it would be a requested move of Marriage equality (disambiguation) to Marriage equality. That move has previously been proposed.

The edit notes suggest a standalone article should be located here. Such an article could certainly be begun if sufficient reliable sources can be found to support it (ie, sources that treat marriage equality as a topic unto itself, as opposed to using the phrase to mean marriage equality for same-sex couples. Whether such an article is commenced here or not, there is no reason to redirect this page to the DAB at any point.--Trystan (talk) 23:29, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
