Bader's "coming out" as a lesbian[edit]

@Bearcat: Thank you for reviewing and doing cleanup. The issue with this edit is that the wording "became a lesbian" in 2009 comes straight from one of the cited sources. I agree that the phrase sounds odd, and I agree with your rationale that "a lesbian who hasn't come out is still a lesbian who just hasn't publicly acknowledged it yet." Yup. All true.

But "came out" doesn't quite fit either, because based on what Bader and the sources say, in 2008 and before she was heterosexual and not a lesbian, nor did she identify internally as a lesbian. This isn't a case of her being in the closet and "coming out," nor is this a case of her "feeling lesbian" internally for many years and taking time to come to terms with it and "come out." In 2009, she met her first girlfriend and has identified as a lesbian since. I would use wording similar to that to describe what happened.

People take different paths in their evolution of sexual orientation. Some people are one way since birth. Others are more fluid. It's not our place to tell Bader that she was an unacknowledged lesbian all her life. We need to rely on what she says. GetSomeUtah (talk) 09:37, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
