Wrong Biography, persons mixed up or something else ?

This page says is an Aboriginal born singer who achieved great success in her adopted homeland of Korea.

Compare this with e.g. the Homepage Bio, referred in the External Links section Marcia Hines' official site.

There you will find was born on 20th July 1953 in Boston, Masachusetts

I havn' got time to check if there are two persons called Marcia Hines, but maybe someone else knows better ...

Thank you for noticing this. I created this article and usually keep an eye on it, among others, but I did not notice that someone had vandalised it. All the "born in Darwin" and "first Aboriginal" etc, etc is nonsense. She was born in Boston as your source indicates. I wouldn't waste time checking it any further - someone just thought they were being funny. I've fixed it back to how it should be. Rossrs 13:55, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Country of Birth[edit]

I have reservations regarding her place of birth: the link above from her official website says she was born in Boston, however the link to The Age newspaper at the bottom of the page (used to cite the Colin Powell trivia point) states that she was born in Jamaica. Can anyone confirm one or the other? Nicwright 09:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Queen of Pop[edit]

Marcia was Queen of Pop four or five times in the Seventies (it is an elected position hosted by the tv show Countdown). Shouldn't that be in the article?

The "Queen of Pop" awards should be mentioned. She won in 1976, 77 and 78. (according to her official website) You may be confusing the "Countdown" awards. The "Queen of Pop" was voted (along with "King of Pop") by the readers of TV Week magazine (same as the Logies) and I think they ran from the late 1960s until the late 1970s. This was phased out and the "Countdown" awards, some of which were industry voted, came later. I'm fairly sure that by the time the "Countdown" awards started, Marcia Hines was in a "down" phase of her career so it's not likely that she won during this time. Then the "Countdown" awards were in turn superseded by the "ARIA Awards". (to the best of my knowledge). Rossrs 05:00, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed major editing[edit]

Marcia Hines is an ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, I intend improving this article up to B-class. This may take a several days (weeks?) and interim edits may look disorganised and incomplete. I intend starting with the Lead (beefing it up) then sectioning the article with in-line references throughout, my first major edit should be along in the next day or so.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:57, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have just completed my 4th major edit, I believe the article is now B-class. Further copyediting (preferably by a new set of eyes: I tend not to see my own mistakes) and work on the discography section is needed (I'm expecting to start on it soon); a good legal photo would be helpful.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:17, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Reorganised discography section with wikitables added, now has more chart positions, more refs and singles with some NZ info. Not entirely pleased with Certifications: Hines has platinum records earlier in her career but I haven't found a reliable ref for them. Likewise I'm confident some of her early albums and singles also charted in NZ but yet to find reliable refs for there.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 12:12, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
