Heaped High and Deep !![edit]

This Wikipedia article on Safin is heaped high and deep with bullshit, and half of it could easily be removed (discarded of) to leave an efficient encyclopedia article. This article gives the impression of being written by Safin's girlfriends and boyfriends who heaped it up high and deep.

Testing Federer[edit]

"Safin is widely recognized as the player who can test Federer the most with his talent and his arsenal of powerful shots."

The player? Rafael Nadal, anyone? Maybe "one of the players" would be better...

Apparently the last pic we had of Marat didn't have any copyright information and was subsequently deleted. Old pics of Marat were deleted because they were orphaned. Mikhail?[edit]

Beat Sampras at a GS in his prime??[edit]

In a word, no. Marat only played Sampras in a major once during his prime, and Sampras beat Safin in straight sets. The sentence in question, which I'm going to remove, bad grammar and all: Marat Safin is one of few players, to beat both Pete Sampras and Roger Federer in a Grand Slam during their peaks.66.190.29.150 (talk) 20:36, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]


Actually, Marat Safin beat Pete Sampras in the year 2000 at the US Open and won the US Open. Not only is this common knowledge among tennis fans, can easily be looked up, but it's actually the first result listed on the bottom of the Wiki Article. Whoops, who feels a bit silly now? :) And, just in case you are interested, the Federer loss to Safin was in 2005 at the Australian Open in the semis, and Safin went on to win that Title as well, so the sentence is correct, and should be replaced. Simple typo's corrected[edit]

Under the 2008 section was the following:

"Safin went on to defeat Feliciano López 3–6, 7–5, 7–6(1), 6–3 in the quarterfinals to set up a quarter-final clash with defending champion Roger Federer. Safin lost the match 6–3, 7–6(3), 6–4. His run to the quarter-finals was his best record in Wimbledon and made him the first Russian man to ever reach a Wimbledon semi-final".

Obviously just a typographical or simple mistake, I will replace quarter-final with semi-final where necessary. blucat David 26 June 2009.

Davis Cup section biased[edit]

A short paragraph on his role in the 2002 and 2006 Davis Cup wins, and then a longer paragraph on the 2009 loss to Israel? Really? And with that nice quote too, "Israel was lucky to make the quarters." Sure sounds like whoever wrote this part just wanted to gloat. LP, Oct 9, 2009

Post retirement and Fabrice Santoro[edit]

I added a bit of what Safin has been doing after tennis but I feel it needs a lot more. Also I think there needs to be a mention somewhere on his inability to defeat Fabrice Santoro since that was pretty famous as well.Captainspirou (talk) 17:38, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
