History[edit]

This history can't be right, it has the King Edward Hotel on this site till 1982, and the Manulife groundbreaking in 1981. 117Avenue (talk) 07:02, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully this will help answer the question on groundbreaking in 1981.

I was one of two surveyors that worked on the Manulife Place Bldg. I worked for C.W.Carry Ltd. a local Edmonton steel manufacturer and erector. Ernie was the other surveyor employed by PCL Construction Ltd. PCL Construction was the general contractor on the project. I started working for C.W.Carry Ltd. in the winter of 1981 and the building was already under construction nearing the 5th level. This was the level where the non-concrete encased columns began. I have a framed picture that was presented to me at the end of steel erection of the Manulife Place Bldg. in the summer of 1982 under construction with a plague the reads "MANULIFE PLACE C.W.CARRY 1982 S.CLARK." The back of the framed photo has been signed by various members of the United Steelworkers Union and management from both C.W.Carry Ltd. and PCL Construction Ltd. I was known as "Eagle Eye" by the United Steelworker crew. Stclark 98 (talk) 04:02, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
