Spelling[edit]

There are three different spellings in use

"Gilles Deleuze Chair of Contemporary Philosophy and Science"[edit]

This is a completely inflated title; EGS is a "summer talk" conference host, not a university (note that their full time faculty amounts to a single person. EGS awards degrees, however no one recognizes them). Any claim to have "chairs" is dubious at best. DeLanda has a long string of sessional and adjunct jobs and little else, so granting him a "chair" is a little over the top. Hairhorn (talk) 00:16, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But the title is referenced and used in secondary sources, so not incorrect. I guess your point might be that is undue weight, and potentially misleading. I suggest there could be a separate section on academic career, where the nature of his "chair" at EGS could be qualified, while the lead simply should provide a on sentence summary. --ELEKHH^T 07:38, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. Putting all his titles in the lead is a little silly, since none of the positions he's held is particularly notable. There's not even a single tenure-track job in there (presumably because he has nothing beyond a Bachelor's degree) Hairhorn (talk) 13:20, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Manuel De Landa → Manuel DeLanda – Manuel DeLanda is the spelling used in DeLanda's books 90% of the time. See this, only two of his earliest books, A Thousand Years of Nonlinear History and War in the Age of Intelligent Machines use the De Landa spelling. Note: move desired by Mohanbhan but has been contested by Lancini87; the preceding rationale is Mohanbhan's; I am neutral in the matter. RichardOSmith (talk) 20:08, 20 August 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. Weak support See an earlier overview of different spellings above at Talk:Manuel De Landa#Spelling. Seems to have changed the spelling after the year 2000, but he published extensively before, including cinematography and still most library catalogues have him as "De Landa". Google Scholar returns about the same number of hits for both spellings. However it seems that in recent years he's becoming increasingly known as "DeLanda". --ELEKHH^T 07:24, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Just want to clarify that Lancini87 has changed "De Landa, Manuel" to "Landa, Manuel" in the default sort without providing any rationale or citing any sources for his edit. This is clearly a mistake which I have not reverted as I want to do it once the page is moved to Manuel DeLanda. So the proposal to move "Manuel De Landa" to "Manuel DeLanda" has not been contested by anyone. Agree with Elekhh that the De Landa spelling was common before 2000 and that many publications are under that name, but since "DeLanda" has become the norm post 2000 we can have Manuel De Landa as the redirect page. -Mohanbhan (talk) 13:57, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Don't overlook his edit summary where he did contest that the name contains a space. So I think it is right that this is being discussed, although as you note, no actual evidence has been presented to support retaining the current name as yet. This article sounds vaguely as if it was written by the person in question. Especially the references about obscure art films and the "at least one critic" who described something as "Lacanian".
