Proposed move[edit]

I propose to rename this article Manasota culture, and use Manasota as a disambiguation page. In general, articles about archaeological cultures in North America have titles of the form Name culture. As there are also articles for Manasota, Florida, Manasota Key and Manasota Scrub Preserve, there is justification for a disambiguation page. I will alos be expanding the article from scholarly sources. -- Donald Albury 22:15, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ManaSota-88, a NGO founded in 1968, a 501.c3 non-profit organization, fights for environment in Florida. See: http://www.manasota88.org + https://eu.heraldtribune.com/story/opinion/columns/2020/10/13/manatee-countys-abandoned-phosphate-plant-retains-risk-fiasco/5967478002/
It seems to be have named after the counties Manatee and Sarasota.
Is it the same origin of name with the Manasota culture? --Helium4 (talk) 15:20, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please see here, you are correct it does seem to be a portmanteau of the two county names. I would assume the 501.c3 named theirs for the same reasoning. But that is outside the scope of this article, as the arch culture and the non-profit do not seem to be related. Heiro 17:30, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
