re: Apu Mallku -in Andean belief an Apu is a diety resident in a particular mountain. It is a very central them in the Andean belief system. Mallku is a prince or highly evolved being, the title being conferred by iniatory status of the individual, in relative status/power on the spiritual path. So there are problems really on 2 counts. A person of Andean beliefs/spirituality would almost never name a person an "Apu" unless they were sure the person was an incarnation of that Apu....without fear of being struck down for blasphemy and lack of respect to the spirit world. Any sane person, in this belief system would also refuse such a title....probably even if they were the incarnation of that spirit. You would also never in normal usage, put those two words together to denote the status of a person......a person could be a mallku, but not an Apu. An Apu is a higher level being than a Mallku.....

So it would seem that this term or application of the term, if currently used, is done by people not within the Andean belief system and are trying to use a name of Andean origin for a political position to denote that the politician has direct, supreme authority over the Andean people. If so, then the person is in for ridicule by these people, because they know the weight carried by such a title. 24.86.139.140 (talk) 19:05, 22 February 2009 (UTC) Robert Ellison crell29@hotmail.com[reply]
