Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because it is reliably-sourced and the band has had multiple mentions in various sources, not just Eurovision-related ones. They have also enjoyed a good extent of regional popularity, highlighted for example with the lead vocalists' provision of vocals for a Hooverphonic song that charted at #3 in native Belgium.

In addition, it is seen as likely to win the Destination Eurovision 2018 -- in which case, an article would be created following standard procedures.. --ThatJosh (talk) 16:48, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It additionally meets criterion 1, 2, 9(?), 10, and 12 at WP:BAND. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThatJosh (talkcontribs) 17:03, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Of the sources provided there is only one that is not a mere mention. The other sources are all actually about Destination Eurovision or the baby Mercy. Additionally the article does not show how they meet criterion 2 (being a featured artist on a song as a solo artist does not guarantee that artist's band notability) or 10. It is unknown whether they will meet 9 until after the show's finale (right now you are violating WP:CRYSTAL), and competing in a television music competition is not meeting 12. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 17:25, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The article is just too soon, while it's very likely that they could represent France (and thus become notable), we do not know that. The article should not have been created until we know. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 17:26, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have chart information readily available, but a quick google search of 'Madame Monsieur' should bring up a bunch of professionally-produced music videos. I am pretty sure the group have charted more than once in French charts, are you able to check this? I really do believe this group meets notability guidelines. -ThatJosh (talk) 17:32, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is the website that Wikipedia uses to check many countries' national charts, and Madame Monsieur have not charted. Assuming that an artist has charted purely because they have "professionally-produced" music videos is probably not something you should continue doing, as charting requires more than a music video, such as radio airplay, sales, and streaming, among other things. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 17:38, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Forgive me if i'm wrong, but that site is only for France, right? I'm pretty certain I recall seeing them chart in the Belgian charts --ThatJosh (talk) 17:51, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is the French version, but you can switch countries. They have not charted in Belgium either. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:00, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification. I've had a search and found that 'Mercy' is currently 2nd on the French iTunes - this surely shows its notability, no? (link: https://www.apple.com/fr/itunes/charts/songs/) -ThatJosh (talk) 18:09, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
iTunes charts are not the same thing as a national singles chart. While success on iTunes can turn into success on the singles chart, it is not used to determined notability. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 18:34, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that is subjective I suppose - perhaps it would be better to use AfD rather than speedy deletion? -ThatJosh (talk) 19:46, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Madame Monsieur have won Destination Eurovision and will be representing France in Lisbon. Being a contestant in the contest is notable enough to have an article, and hopefully there will be many people who will help expand the article and add more sources.
