Specs[edit]

  • The specs seem to cover a range of H-6s with the dimension ranges. Would it be easier/better to list the AH/MH-6J or AH/MH-6M in the specs? I'm not seeing an easy mil source for either right now. Thanks. -Fnlayson 17:40, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Might have to use MD 530MG specs since the actual aircraft specs are probably going to be classified. Should get you in the right ballpark. Jane's might have a reference, also. --Born2flie 18:26, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This book, Harding, Stephen (1997). U.S. Army Aircraft Since 1947. Atglen, PA, USA: Schiffer Publishing Ltd. p. 251. ISBN 96-69996. {{cite book}}: Check |isbn= value: length (help), has good details on the various H-6 variants, including basic specs on the various models. It covers the MH-6A/B/C/E/H/J, and AH-6A/C/F/G/J, but not the more recent -6M models. I'll try to work on the spces this week, probably the -6J. The AH-6G and MH-6H were both based on the MD 530MG, and were then upraged to -6J standard. So I think Born has it right in using the 530MG specs, if we can find them, then I'll correct them to the -6J were needed, noting that the rest are for the 530MG. Btw, the book is a good reference source, covering almost all Army aircraft since 1947. It's been printed in 2 editions, 1990 and 1998 (the one I have), so it is dated for current models, but overall it's pretty accurte to my limited background. There are some obvious errors, such as treating the Hawker P.1127 and the XV-6 Kestrel as the same aircraft - they're not the same, though they are VERY CLOSELY related, and we cover both on the same page in Wikipedia. - BillCJ 19:41, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • From the Defender article, I got the 530MG is based on the MD 530F. So I used MD 530F specs from the MD Helicopters page. I listed max engine power and derated takeoff and continuous power levels. If that's confusing, the max engine power can be removed or something. Should be good enough for now. -Fnlayson 03:50, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll try to check the specs with my book Fri or Sat, and see if I can tweak them. Btw, as I understand it, Little Birds have been fitted with NOTAR at times, though not now. It would be nice if we could find a pic of one of them. I tried several keywords on http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/ , but no luck. - BillCJ 04:22, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any updates on A/MH-6 specs or anything else? I'd expect the empty weight would go up due to armament and stuff. The mil version's engine power might be increased over the MD 530F. Thanks. -Fnlayson 03:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Some time ago I've added the Harding U.S. Army book as another reference for the specs, mainly the armament info. -Fnlayson (talk) 00:12, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The MD 530F is now in use by the Afghan Air Force. I'm not up to editing the page now. If someone else doesn't take it up, I'll come back to it when I have time and bandwidth. http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/military-again-afghan-af-picks-md-530f-helicopters-06804/ http://www.janes.com/article/61622/afghan-air-force-gets-five-more-md-530f-attack-helicopters Two of which have been lost. They have also been modified, but are still apparently designated MD 530F

There are differing opinions about the usefulness of the aircraft in Afghanistan. Happy to let expert wikipedians decide whether this is relevant or not: http://www.janes.com/article/54845/afghan-md-530f-lost-to-accident-air-force-criticises-helicopter-s-performance https://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htairfo/articles/20160918.aspx — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:2153:5800:CD39:1E09:AEA5:687A (talk) 20:03, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ref tags?[edit]

Fnlayson, do you think we really need three tags? I don't question the need for at least one tag, but wouldn't the one at the top be sufficient? Just asking. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 19:00, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't care much now. I believe a user dumped uncited text in and I tagged it. -Fnlayson (talk) 19:09, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, then I'll leave the one at the top. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT PRAISE 19:28, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

tense in the development section[edit]

The present tense is used for what seem like 50 year old capabilities and decisions, and the section switches from power outputs that must be going on 50 years old to almost contemporaneous model designations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.138.223.87 (talk) 04:22, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
