Wound of Spring[edit]

I was curious about the 1961 unpublished M M Kaye novel entitled Wound of Spring. Apart from being listed in the Bibliography at MMKaye.com I can't find any online reference to this work apart from obvious borrowings from Wikipedia. There's no lack of references to a 1960 novel entitled The Wound of Spring by Indian novelist S. Menon Marath, and I can't help but wonder if the mention of a purported similarly named unpublished M M Kaye novel isn't the result of some confusion - the specifics of which I can't imagine but it's very curious that Kaye would plan to in effect recycle Marath's title. Unless "wound of spring" is a quote from some third-party - and I can't find any evidence to support that - then Kaye either thought up the same title as did Marath by an amazing coincidence, or else Kaye decided to pretty much purloin the title of an existing work. And given Kaye's background she likely had at least heard of Marath's book. Of course Kaye may have utilized Wound of Spring strictly as a working title to be replaced by an original title upon a publication fated to not take place - which begs the question: why not? All of Kaye's earlier adult novels were reissued after Far Pavilions hit with the exception of the inaugural Six Bars at Seven so the odds would favor any novel Kaye wrote seeing the light of day. And while Kaye admits that she set the bar low when she wrote Six Bars at Seven by 1961 she presumably had enough literary finesse that anything she produced would have had some worth - even if Kaye herself had misgivings about Wound of Spring, once she'd passed away I don't think her publisher would have shared them. Of course it's possible Kaye's novel was no longer in the hands of a publisher if she had ever even submitted it rather than herself deciding to suppress it - oh who knows? Seriously - who knows? Does anyone have any substantial info about an unpublished novel by M M Kaye entitled Wound of Spring? I can't access any of Kaye's volumes of autobiography - can anyone verify they contain any references to an unpublished novel she wrote entitled Wound of Spring? --Cherrylimerickey (talk) 02:42, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wound of spring is definitely an unpublished novel by m m Kaye. Indeed I have a copy in manuscript form given to me by the Kaye family. It is a murder thriller set in Berlin. This lost and forgotten manuscript did not resurface until the 2000s by which time Mollie was too unwell to attempt any rewrites. Bunbleweed (talk) 10:46, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
