Please introduce the Infobox German Location with image. It provides a coherent look among German cities. Lear 21 23:01, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will incorporate some information from the german pages here. Neozoon 22:54, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Improvement needed to the wording[edit]

Some of the language in the History section is a bit cumbersome and could use a bit of a rewrite, eg: "One day before ...", "duchy Jülich". Perhaps it has been translated from a German or French text.

Also, should Homo erectus have both words capitalised, just the first word capitalised or neither word capitalised? Just nit-picking, I know, but it is an encyclopedia so it should be both correct and consistant. Pedrocelli 01:11, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Standard practice for scientific Binomial Momenclature is that the Genus name (here 'Homo') has an initial Capital, but the Specific name ('erectus') does not: the existing capitalisation therefore correct. Arguably, however, the binomial would be more correctly rendered in italics. 40.0.96.1 12:34, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sons and Daughters of Mönchengladbach[edit]

If think you should add Theo Hespers. He was a partisan against Nazi Germany, I think it is a good contrast to Joseph Goebbels. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.189.95.43 (talk) 16:50, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

From Bergisch Gladbach:

"The word “Bergisch” in the name does not originate from its location in the earldom of Berg and was not added to distinguish it from Mönchengladbach as believed by many people, but from the earls who gave their name to the region."

So which is it? I'm confused. If B G has always been called B G, why would a town called just Gladbach need to add a prefix to differentiate itself – any more than Chester would need to add something at the start to distinguish it from Manchester? First settlement 300,000-400,000 years?[edit]

This appears to be a typo, probably the first settlements were 3000-4000 years ago? If literally talking about evidence of neanderthal's, very strange to refer to this as 'settlement'. I think most historians believe the first settlements (conversion of hunter gatherers to farming) was 10,000 years ago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.222.165.34 (talk) 22:10, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Monniken-Glabbeek[edit]

Is not a correct nor used name in Dutch. User has been admonished and article on nl-wiki had to be protected now he continues cross wiki. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 11:01, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are a lot of evidences, to show that Monniken-Glaabbeek is the dutch historical name of the city. Please, do not try to present this as if I was some kind of destroyer, whereas there is a whole discussion in the dutch talking page.

Best regards. --Glabbeek (talk) 13:08, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Either way, I don't think the lead paragraph needs this kind of information: Mönchengladbach is a German city and never belonged to the Netherlands, so the (potential) Dutch name is irrelevant here. It's also not close enough to the NL border (where towns often have German and Dutch names both worth mentioning)It's also not one of the towns close to the border where German and Dutch names are both commonly used and worth mentioning (example Nijmegen/Nimwegen). The proposed Dutch name could be mentioned as trivia in the history section, if the source is reliable. As for historical names, the de-wiki article has pictures of historical maps where the town is called Clabbeck in 1563, and Gelabeeck in 1573. Much more interesting and relevant than this petty quarrel about a 'potential' name it never got... Rh73 (talk) 13:20, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Post war there has been talk of annexation by The Netherlands of pieces of Germany and dutch names were proposed for the towns and villages. That is all. It is a cross wiki pov pusher I have been busy with reverting and the account is on his/her way to a time out on various wiki versions now. This as info to my fellow admins on en-wiki. Regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 13:56, 14 August 2015 (UTC) admin on nl-wiki and global sysop[reply]
According to your comment, everything I say in the article is true. What did you erase all my contributions then ? Regards, --Glabbeek (talk) 17:36, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
