BLPN thread - OTRS

note - there is an WP:OTRS report on the article and a thread at the BLP noticeboard here. Off2riorob (talk) 13:03, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Guardian (UK) article "US billionaire wins high court order over Wikipedia 'defamation'"

This seems completely unenforceable in the US where these publishers are chartered, and is therefore irrelevant. Should reference to this be removed from the page altogether? (Guardian article) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike Restivo (talkcontribs) 18:33, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

No not at all, Its totally notable. I would just like to say all my edits to this article were to remove content not compliant with en wikipedia polices and guidelines. Off2riorob (talk) 22:50, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Okay you're right. I just don't want to convey the message that this is actionable against anyone. Mike Restivo (talk) 23:25, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
All editors that think they are invisible and protected in some magic way from legal action against them and that they can use wikipedia to attack living people are mistaken and if they think wikipedia foundation will allow them to do that and protect them and their identity from prosecution they are foolishly mistaken. Off2riorob (talk) 23:27, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
How is the Wikipedia Foundation going to identify a user such as myself, who is accessing Wikipedia from a public wifi point? I don't believe it is at all practicable. 86.170.179.76 (talk) 13:07, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Editing via a hotspot is not a guarantee on anonymity, ISP providers can be requested to provide locations and mail accounts accessed and suchlike. The best is to play nice imo. Editing with a IP address gives you less anonymity here than creating an account. Off2riorob (talk) 13:17, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
I think the key word you're neglecting is 'PUBLIC Wifi'. Many cafe's and other places have free public WIFI. The IP address only traces back to the Cafe and there isn't any way to identify the user. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.214.20.58 (talk) 16:27, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
I agree - WP should not be used to defame anyone. By the way, that ip is not me. Mike Restivo (talk) 19:30, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Starbucks has free WIFI but you have to get a card. So you'd have to have given false information when filling in the form for this card. Some Free WiFi spots track which websites you visit for advertising etc, and leave cookies. You can't be sure how much information they collect about you. eg Checking email. Lead needs NPOV editing

The current lead violates WP:LEAD and WP:NPOV by not summarizing the article and instead giving undue weight to details about the subjects company and his personal wealth. I am going to make some changes to bring it into compliance. --KeithbobTalk 20:31, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Off topic text removed

This text containing random details about his company does not belong in a BLP. I am storing it here so that it can be used to create a stand alone article on Moore Capital Management:

This is a good source for a stand alone article. [1] Louis Bacon: Macro maestro,Stephen Taub, July 1 2011, Retrieved July 17 2011.--KeithbobTalk 17:19, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
I have removed the redirect and created the article Moore Capital Management. --KeithbobTalk 22:01, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

"Suspicious death"

This has WP:BLP issues, as it could be seen as implying wrongdoing by Louis Bacon. There also needs to be stronger sourcing than Suspicious Death at American Billionaire resident in Lyford Cay, Bahamas to establish why this is notable enough to mention.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 16:20, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

The references are from an article full of "alleged" and "on deeper investigation" with no further explanation. There is nothing to connect this to Bacon that I can find other than place. It is definitely WP:UNDUE, if not entirely circumstantial and misleading. Bielle (talk) 17:22, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Additions to Philanthropy

I work for Rubenstein Communications and I propose the following additions on behalf of Louis Bacon. To mitigate conflict of interest issues, I ask that an editor review the edits and take them live, as they see fit. If no objections are had and no edits are made within five days, I will go ahead and update the entry myself. NinaSpezz (talk) 16:07, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
