This article should assert why this man is notable. To quote Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, Wikipedia is not a collection of:

Genealogical entries, or phonebook entries. Biography articles should only be for people with some sort of fame, achievement, or perhaps notoriety. One measure of achievement is whether someone has been featured in several external sources (on or off-line).

In other words, what did this man do to warrant an entry. He was a prominent politician, true, but why does was he made CMG? What did he do?

His children and the various titles are not signifiers of why he is important.

MP for North Lancashire[edit]

I've moved part of this here from the main page. It seems to be an objection to his being MP for North Lancashire but I'm not sure what to make of it:

He was elected to serve North Lonsdale in 1895 and later North Lancashire (cannot be: Leigh Rayment's Historical List of MPs ) as a Member of Parliament.

Cjrother 15:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC) richard cavendish was a younger son of the fourth son of a duke. hence, he wasn't an "aristocrat." i'd call him a member of britain's "middle class" who just happened to have some "aristocrats" among the branches of his family tree (along with many ancestors and relatives whom we might classify as "just plain folk"). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.233.206.70 (talk) 22:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
