  • Comment There is a need for this because for example if I am wantin to create a similar page regarding the use the long ball in Australian Rules football. I would either have to add to this article, which is all about Association football or create a new article dedicated to the Australian Rules use. THe new pae would have to have a Dab in the title. I would though not be able to move this page to the necessary Dab title due to a redirect being in the way. Also a disambiuation page could not be created without destroying the history of this page. Clarity in the titles of articles are necessary to prevent future problems from occuring. Finally just beacuse other stuff dosent exist yet it should not prevent title clarity from occuring.--Lucy-marie (talk) 14:15, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    So create the new article first: we don't name articles based on what may exist in the future, because we don't yet know what will happen in the future. And the footy article is still the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 14:52, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel language[edit]

The article stated: It is generally considered by many around the world to be a German and Italian style of play that is primitive and used by teams lacking the skill to create plays, it is heavily criticized by supporters who prefer more skill-based technical and tactical play.[1][2][3] . Weasel language is employed - who exactly is saying this? And when we check the references, we find that none of the three says anything like that. -- Zz (talk) 12:19, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Biased and subjective[edit]

I found this page very subjective and biased. I corrected the description of Flo's goal against Brazil, and added two links for Demba Ba's goal against PSG and Ireland's goal against the Netherlands. But many sentences of this article are just biased or subjective. For example, the paragraph describing Chelsea's gameplan against PSG was subjective, and the "Like England, Ireland are notorious for playing the long ball forward, possibly owing to their shared footballing heritage and tradition which continue to this day" sentence sounds biased and lacks evidence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Foreverkeeper2 (talk • contribs) 02:47, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Continental Europe[edit]

In Continental Europe the style is called kick and rush.
In the Netherlands, and I presume many other countries, it is only pejoratively referred to as kick and rush. E.g. in Dutch there is the neutral term de lange bal and phrases such as de lange bal hanteren (to use the long ball).Rectificus (talk) 20:01, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
