Steinitz's nationality[edit]

The Crosstable identifies Wilhelm Steinitz with the flag and country name of the United Kingdom; is this an error? I can't find anything else identifying him with the UK in any capacity. GCL (talk) 22:45, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Blackburne-Rosenthal[edit]

According to chessgames (not a RS) the second game between Blackburne and Rosenthal, played in the final round, was cancelled after 2 draws because it would not affect the final places and the tournament had already gone on too long. Can anyone confirm this? MaxBrowne2 (talk) 00:59, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The source for the crosstable was an old self-published site, and I believe they got the Blackburne-Rosenthal result wrong. The self-published but generally reliable Mark Weeks agrees that the the second Blackburne-Rosenthal game was not replayed. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 06:49, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK I found something in Chess Player's Chronicle, only a snippet view but it's good enough. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 07:01, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
