Sum of covers[edit]

More Cover Pictures[edit]

Should we reorganize this page into an issue-by-issue rundown?[edit]

Instead of just a list of the people who appeared on the cover, does anybody think this page should be organized into a table featuring a rundown of each issue (for example, issue number, cover date, cover subject, and pertinent information for each issue)? Look at the page for List of Saturday Night Live hosts and musical guests for an example of what I mean. JLThorpe 13:14, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cover montages and total appearances[edit]

For montages, should everybody who appears in the montage be included in the list, even if it was a small appearance? For example, one issue in 1996 featured a montage which included John Popper and KISS, who otherwise never appeared on the cover. And the 1000th issue contained a huge montage including some people who never appeared before (like Ronald Reagan). Should they be added?

Also, if the list is kept alphabetical, should we include total appearances on the cover, for people who appeared more than once (single appearances seems unnecessary)?

Celebrities on international editions' covers[edit]

Should this page be limited to only the celebrities who appeared on the covers of the U.S. edition of the magazine? It seems like the list of celebrities who appeared on international editions would be too hard to verify and complete, unlike the list for celebrities who appeared on the U.S. edition, which are listed on the RS website and in books. Fix up article somewhat[edit]

i took out the trivia, moved some it elsewhere, broke up the long list for easier editing. the summary was not encyclopedic. this is my best effort for rewriting it. note: there are at least 2 "people" on list who dont exist: darth vader and D.B. from doonesbury. i had written, somewhere, that the title of this article is incorrect. i would like to know if there have been any NON-celebrities who have appeared on the cover (say, an anomymous fan, etc). if not, isnt a cover automatic proof of celebrity in this case? a better title would be: List of Rolling Stone Magazine covers by subject. i am very tempted right now to add notations to all nonmusical celebrities, so they stand out. yep i just did that. theres a whole lot of fictional characters here! I added notations to the musical celebrities as well. In some cases, this is something I wanted to do for a while. For example, band members who are not household names - I wanted to add what group they were in so you didn't have to go to each person's Wiki page and find out who they were. There are a number of covers where anonymous people appeared (examples: RS 50, RS 60). There may be ways to identify them, if you go through the articles and stuff, but at this point I've done enough work on the celebrities and am not willing to go through the task of researching those people as well. If you want to rename the article, I'm fine with that. As I said in a previous comment, I think this article should be limited to celebrities on the US editions of the magazine, as they are easier to research.JLThorpe (talk) 12:49, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

youve made it a much better article imho. and yes, i also think it needs to be limited to the US edition, or if someone can research the intl ones, have articles which are separate(why someone would want that is beyond me, but fans are fans). i find a lot of lists in wikipedia dont provide much info, or have misleading names (i.e. list of publishers), but this one is becoming valuable Mercurywoodrose (talk) 15:35, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lists by years[edit]

I think there should be list articles for Rolling Stone similar to List of covers of Time magazine and List of TV Guide covers (2010s). The problem is there are no years/dates given on this list. Any thoughts? --Musdan77 (talk) 18:15, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chronological list of Rolling Stone covers[edit]

Yes, a Chronological list (or a link to one) would be really useful. This is the second place I came to look for what was going on in Rock in a particular year and I got nothing. -- User:ghosts&empties

Proposed split[edit]

I see that a previous thread was mentioned on separating this out into multiple lists by decade, though that didn't get much response. Let's get that wheel spinning again here. In this state, the article is ridiculously long and a nightmare to navigate through. With that in mind, I suggest separating the article by decade in a similar vein to List of covers of Time magazine, List of TV Guide covers, and their subarcticles. In other words, the main page here would be split into the following subpages and have a note listing them as well as briefly talking about the magazine:

"List of people on the United States cover of Rolling Stone (1960s)"
"List of people on the United States cover of Rolling Stone (1970s)"
"List of people on the United States cover of Rolling Stone (1980s)"
"List of people on the United States cover of Rolling Stone (1990s)"
"List of people on the United States cover of Rolling Stone (2000s)"
"List of people on the United States cover of Rolling Stone (2010s)"

One question: Some covers had a specific subject but no actual person on the cover (for example, issue 1096, which dealt with global warming). Would those be included in the above subarticles? If so, maybe the titles should be changed to something like "List of United States covers of Rolling Stone magazine (1960s)", etc. JLThorpe (talk) 01:26, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
